If you even just think about buying Meta's Ray-Ban Glasses that record everyone around you without consent, I will judge you as a creep, and avoid and report you like I do with other creeps.

@Em0nM4stodon I wish someone would explain to me how these are legal in the EU? I passed by a store in Paris advertising them in the window and I got so confused. France has super stringent laws regarding the right to your own image… I hope they’ll have the same fate as Google Glass (aka 🪦 )

@_elena I don't understand either. I don't understand how they are legal anywhere.
It seems to go against so many laws, and I guess because there's the words "AI" and "smart" in it, nobody cares? I think we should bring this to the attention of our data protection authorities. We should get Ray-Ban banned!

@Em0nM4stodon I wonder if @noybeu has anything going on against them

@Em0nM4stodon @_elena So tell me: how can a blind person have the world described if you don't take a pic on the fly?
To be precise, I don't have the Meta Rayban, I have the Envision Glasses, and soon enough the Ally Solos Glasses - https://ally.me/glasses - by @letsenvision - imagine a guy approaching me "I'm a cop, come with me". I must use tech to describe him if he's identifiable somehow as police! I can't ask the consent "let me touch you" if he's a predator I'm screwed LOL -

Smart glasses, for a blind user, are a partial replacement of sight. With no doubt, less "invasive" than hands (touching people is UNPOLITE!) but I honestly think I'm surrounded by creeps. I can't prove whether or not men around me are looking at my breasts or my backside while I'm walking. If they silently lick their lips, etc, without any kind of consent from me. Then, am I the creep because I wear glasses to see the world? [random swearwords]

This is one acceptable use case for glasses with cameras.
But only if they don't record, just enough frames on memory to process on the fly. And no face recognition to search for information on the internet.
As far as I understand, this is not what we are talking about here.

@delawen @Em0nM4stodon @_elena @letsenvision No save/share feature. Just description. The old version had actually the ability to recognize people, but NOT from Internet. To identify John Doe, he had to stand in front of you, let you take pics from different angles, then you could record his name. I personally have never used that function, because where it could be useful to recognise people (conferences) it's impossible to have it work in practice.

@delawen @Em0nM4stodon @_elena @letsenvision Btw, about Meta Ray-Ban, I have met a friend who bought them and said they detected an obstacle to the right, when it was to the left. I honestly have many reasons not to use Meta, but I defend camera-equipped glasses as an aid, because I'd never like to be treated with suspicion just for my glasses. I already have enough stigma around.
