Danish Arctic Command announces that two C-130 Hercules planes have landed in the municipalities of Nuuk, and Kangerlussuaq in Greenland with international forces in preparation for large international "exercises".
The population of Greenland has been told to expect a "considerable military presence" consisting of international Air, Navy, Army, and Special Forces.
From what I hear, four NATO countries are involved in today's operation, including our Norwegians friends.

A prudent move since (as Trump pointed out) the threat to Greenland from countries like Russia and China is so serious that it would warrant the US taking ownership.
One wonders why Denmark and NATO were not aware of this threat before. It's clearly necessary to defend it from those countries.
(and any other that don't belong and could attempt to get a foothold there)

@masek I do not think that is embarrassing. I think that is what you do to make sure everything is ready for the larger force.

@sibrosan because Trump is lying. There is no immediate threat from other countries. We have expensive surveillance to prove it.

Most of the previous generation of my family worked for the military and I have a lot of friends in shipbuilding and R&D. I get a lot of insight on the current state.
Believe me, we would not be a threat even to Luxembourg even if we tried 🙂.

Most of the previous generation of my family worked for the military and I have a lot of friends in shipbuilding and R&D. I get a lot of insight on the current state.
Believe me, we would not be a threat even to Luxembourg even if we tried 🙂.
@masek from what I hear, the Ukrainians are very pleased with the German hardware, including the various air defence systems.

@randahl Hardware: can do 🙂. It is a pity that we got rid of the cold war stocks. We once had 3.000 MBTs. That stock could have Ukraine supplied for years.
I refer more to the ability to deploy troops and keep them in the field.
The tank brigade in Lithuania (not Estonia, sorry!) was agreed upon in 2022. The 45th tank brigade is currently expected to be ready in 2027.
P.S. I served in 1985 in 6th Tank Grenadiers division which was paired with the danish Jutland division. Back at that time, German soldiers in Denmark still had to expect to be chased away by Danish farmers during exercises.

Please understand that many Danes have relatives who died in the resistance movement. That wound is difficult to heal.

- Never escalate, never threaten
- When in doubt, retreat
- Get some danish comrade to mediate

@randahl @tdp_org This is weird. According to military bloggers from daily "Ouest-France", fifteen or so troops from the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27ème BIM) have arrived in Nuuk. They "will prepare for the deployment of a larger French contingent that could be deployed in Greenland in the near future." Said contingent will participate in the joint exercises with allied countries: Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the UK and possibly Canada (huh?). https://lignesdedefense.ouest-france.fr/65148-2

When greenland is attacked, those token soldiers as you call them, will notify someone, then the whole deal with soldiers will get to greenland quickly.
We cant outmatch usa material and their troops,yet , but we have other ways to win. -

Project Fail: Cracking a Laptop BIOS Password Using AI
Whenever you buy used computers there is a risk that they come with unpleasant surprises that are not of the insect variant. From Apple hardware that is iCloud-locked with the original owner MIA to PCs that have BIOS passwords, some of these are more severe than others. In the case of BIOS passwords, these tend to be more of an annoyance that’s easily fixed by clearing the CMOS memory, but this isn’t always the case as [Casey Bralla] found with a former student-issued HP ProBook laptop purchased off Facebook Marketplace.
Maybe it’s because HP figured that locking down access to the BIOS is essential on systems that find their way into the hands of bored and enterprising students, but these laptops write the encrypted password and associated settings to a separate Flash memory. Although a master key purportedly exists, HP’s policy here is to replace the system board. Further, while there are some recovery options that do not involve reflashing this Flash memory, they require answers to recovery questions.
This led [Casey] to try brute-force cracking, starting with a Rust-based project on GitHub that promised much but failed to even build. Undeterred, he tasked the Claude AI to write a Python script to do the brute-forcing via the Windows-based HP BIOS utility. The chatbot was also asked to generate multiple lists of unique passwords to try that might be candidates based on some human guesses.
Six months later of near-continuous attempts at nine seconds per try, this method failed to produce a hit, but at least the laptop can still be used, just without BIOS access. This may require [Casey] to work up the courage to do some hardware hacking and erase that pesky UEFI BIOS administrator password, proving at least that apparently it’s fairly good BIOS security.

I absolutely understand many, many people do not like AI generated videos. I don't like them either.
However, do not get threatening and sanctimonious and dog pile on someone who has posted something in good faith, clearly didn't know it was AI, and doesn't have the skills to spot it.
Because people become terrified of posting anything for fear of it being AI and getting lambasted for it.
AI is DESIGNED to fool people. And when you beat up someone who is fooled, you're beating up a victim.
