I just realised that you’re confusing your browser routing to SimpleX website with messaging routing via SimpleX Messaging Protocol.
It’s like saying that my connection to NHS website routes through US servers so I can’t trust my local GP.

I just realised that you’re confusing your browser routing to SimpleX website with messaging routing via SimpleX Messaging Protocol.
It’s like saying that my browser routes to the NHS website through US servers therefore I can’t trust my local GP.
For anyone who’s reading this thread, SimpleX Messaging Protocol works just like the Fediverse, where you chose which nodes (instances) you federate with. You can disable (defederate) the servers you choose, and only federate (or route your E2EE messages) with the ones you trust. If you want, you can completely disconnect from the whole network except your family and friends by using your own servers.
It’s also fully open source, you’re welcome to inspect the code should you wish prior to installation.

So no i'm not "confused", having EU server (physically), but relying on US Company is enven more dumb, because cloud act mean EU server by US company = US server

Also i would recommend you to move out of mastodon.social to an EU server of mastodon (like mine), because mastodon.social use US CDN and US DNS, so a US cut will cut you out of their server.

Just as a reminder, WhatsApp is deeply intertwined within the military-industrial complex. This isn’t just about resilience in case of a US embargo, but about withdrawing your support from a company willfully and actively enabling this political crisis.
Speaking as a huge decentralization nerd: Signal rocks, and there’s no serious EU-based Signal alternative. Delta is OpenPGP-based and Session depends on a cryptocurrency token so they’re both striked out on any ground you’d wish to use Signal for.
As a matter of fact my partner and I plan to self-host email infrastructure, several Bonfire instances, and a Cwtch server, for several organizations. As a sociology student I have a legit resume based on my own personal self-hosting projects, and I’m not wishing that to anyone else. We still praise the Signal Foundation’s work.

If that is your threat model, you should be much more worried.
The internet at large is US tech.
Most content is behind CDNs from the US. Even some of the fediverse. Even some of the European Commission servers. Even some of your government services.
Beyond CDNs, all browsers are from the US.
Beyond browsers, the entirety of DNS, PKI, etc., is controlled by the US.
Banks depend entirely on the US. Even the ECB.
We are entirely US owned.

I've been boycotting Samsung for years now. People outside Korea often seem surprised when I mention this—after all, Samsung is one of the most recognizable Korean brands globally. So let me explain.
It started after I read <cite>Think Samsung</cite> (<cite lang="ko"><ruby>三星<rp>(</rp><rt>삼성</rt><rp>)</rp></ruby>을 생각한다</cite>) by Kim Yong-chul, a former Samsung lawyer turned whistleblower. The book exposed systematic corruption, slush funds, and how the conglomerate wielded its influence to evade accountability. It painted a picture of a company that operated as if it were above the law.
But what pushed me from mere dislike to active boycott was the 2015 merger between Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries. This wasn't just questionable corporate governance—it was engineered to help Lee Jae-yong consolidate control of the Samsung empire. The merger ratio heavily undervalued Samsung C&T, and the National Pension Service, despite its fiduciary duty to Korean citizens, voted in favor of it. Korean pensioners lost billions.
The whole affair later became central to the corruption scandal that brought down President Park Geun-hye. Lee Jae-yong was convicted of bribery. And yet Samsung continues as if nothing happened.
I'm under no illusion that my personal boycott hurts Samsung in any meaningful way. But some things aren't about effectiveness. They're about not being complicit.
