(I had been struggling with this since Friday, so I'm a little in disbelief) âșïžâ
And so that there are no misunderstandings: YunoHost is WONDERFUL. I struggled with this particular installation (first time ever) because there isn't an available guide. I will be writing to my YH contacts offering to create such a guide for newbies.
Two crucial things needed to happen (I got advice about the first and lucked out with the second... lots of A/B testing):
1) When you install Sharkey with YunoHost you need to set the initial permissions to "All visitors" (I had it set to Admin only and that's why my instance looked broken).
2) Sharkey has two passwords in the account setup screen. The only combo that worked for me was keeping the first field empty and then using my YunoHost admin's password for the second. The username could be anything, didn't have to be like the YH admin. I'll be changing this stat though, for security reasons.

why Sharkey? You are using Gotosocial already.@cantences to have a smaller private instance... my Mastodon and my GoToSocial can get super noisy (100+ mentions in a day, type of noisy). I just want something private where I comment on my favorite Fedi people's posts

Backup the working state! And backup the whole server before any update... The Sharkey Yunohost Package seems a bit .... ehrm... "shakey" ââ
Runs very fine as long as you do not touch it ââ
Edit: On second tought. The State on my machine may be my own fault cause i fucked around with it to much â -

I recommend adding a search field to the widgets in the right bar. Very convenient for account / external note pasting. -

I will definitely backup, take a server snapshot and say a little prayer. The good thing with YunoHost is that they always automatically create a backup of a software before upgrade

@elena@aseachange.com I had one catastrophic fail where the backup restoreafter a failed update failed and yunohost uninstalled Sharkey completely.

@pikesley I know I shouldn't be shocked anymore, but creatures like Andreessen still find new ways to blow my mind. "Know thyself" was so important that it was inscribed in stone in Delphi 2,500 years ago. I thought these guys were super into Western Culture.
