    Purtroppo non è semplice sostituire YouTube per chi questo canale rappresenta una fonte di reddito irrinunciabile (ma lo stesso vale per qualunque altra piattaforma).

    La mercificazione dei contenuti, per cui il creatore è incoraggiato economicamente a postare contenuti "richiesti" o "di successo" funziona, altrimenti non ci avrebbero tirato su piattaforme di ogni tipo.

    I contenuti dei content creator professionisti sono video di buona qualità, perché "professione" è una cosa seria, non si gioca con il reddito imponibile. Ma se non c'è domanda non c'è nemmeno offerta. E nessuno domanda su Peertube: anche solo la piattaforma galleggia sulle donazioni private. Mentre su YouTube è la piattaforma che paga, e pertanto ha più capacità della somma dei content creator che ospita.

    Nessuno acquisterebbe attrezzature, spenderebbe tempo nell'editing o nei testi perfetti per farlo senza un ritorno, con alcune notevoli eccezioni, ovviamente, come per tutto: c'è chi ama fare qualcosa di utile e divertente e lo vive come un hobby, e c'è chi ama semplicemente potersi esprimere liberamente.

    Vi immaginate il paradosso di un produttore che guadagna più denaro della piattaforma che lo hosta? Non è sostenibile, non credete?

    Certo ci sono anche le piattaforme di fidelizzazione individuale, come Patreon o Onlyfans, che però paiono funzionare bene solo con particolari e casi d'uso o poche selezionate eccezioni alla regola. E non credo che con Activitypub si possa implementare nativamente una ACL così articolata e granulare come richiesto da questo tipo di piattaforme.

    Penso che su Peertube non si potrà mai pensare di superare la soglia dell'amatoriale, che spesso va più che bene, eh, a meno che qualcuno, dai semi-pro in su, non decida di usarla come piattaforma *pro-bono* secondaria.

    Alla fine la domanda da rispondere è sempre la stessa: quale è il modello di business che rende praticabile e sostenibile questo modello di interazioni sociali? Ricordiamoci che l'unico modello "in perdita" ammesso è quello hobbistico-amatoriale.

    Ce matin ici il pleut, je doutes qu'on aille monter la T. comme prévu s'il avait neigé.
    Ce matin nous avons découvert au petit déjeuner les livres que nous nous sommes offerts pour notre petit Noël. Pas de surprises mais ça va nous faire notre journée de tout façon.

    Hello FediverseIf everything works out according to plan, when I hit publish on this post it will show up in the #Fediverse. After a year of on-and-off attempts, to implement #ActivityPub on this website, with no success, I have hopefully cracked it! Well, when I say “I have hopefully cracked it,” what I mean is @pfefferle@mastodon.social and the #WordPress “open office hours” program, have cracked it. It turns out; if you have a problem with the WordPress ActivityPub plugin, the best thing to do is disable other plugins and, though a process of elimination, see if one of them is the issue. So big thanks to Mathias and WordPress for your help on this.Now this is working and I am broadcasting out into the Fediverse, I feel like I should modify my content a little to appeal to all of you woke, leftists, godless, communists 🙂 out there. For a while I was far too smitten with the every little #Sustainability initiative, every little carbon reduction program, and every other bit of  #GreenWashing that was put out there by brands. Full confession I actually believed that ElonMusk wanted to save the planet! Yeh I know, I was naive…While I do continue to applaud any actions that a corporation takes, that materially helps either people or planet, it’s clear that problems are systemic. We need corporations to shift from Shareholder Primacy to Stakeholder Capitalism, valuing environmental and social impact alongside profit. Or try someting completely different. Right now, if there is a more sustainable or ethical brand choice to be had, we should always take it, but we must understand, that we are not “saving the planet” with those choices, just minimising our impact. Nebula TV channel, Our Changing Climate,  has this excellent video on the subject of Ethical Consumerism.It turns out, that whoever first pointed out “Corporations are Psychopaths” was mostly correct – How a corporation is designed to function, putting shareholders before people and planet, is psychopathic behaviour. (Psychopathic behaviour includes a lack of empathy and remorse, superficial charm, manipulation, and a disregard for social norms and the rights of others.) The only solution is to rewrite corporate charters and incorporation acts and include specific legal provisions that mandate environmental and social responsibility, shifting the core purpose of business beyond mere profit maximisation. Ultimately Corporations and their leaders are never going to fully act in the best interests of people and planet, because that’s not what they were created to do.So the plan, for 2026, is to be posting more content here that challenges both brands and the whole system. To shine a light on the negative impacts to people and planet that brands are having.     A blog requires a platform designed for blogging. Staying within the realm of federated software, the three natural alternatives are: WordPress, which, thanks to the plugin that makes it compatible with Activitypub, has achieved a level of perfect integration with the Fediverse. Ghost, which, federated a few months ago, is not only a blogging platform but is also specifically designed for creating mailing lists based on the Substack model. Writefreely, which, despite being natively federated, is extremely focused on distraction-free writing and therefore has some seriously limiting features. Friendica As for Friendica, I'm a huge fan of that software and manage the second-most active instance in the entire Fediverse. I can assure you that I know it well and appreciate all its most important features. But don't be fooled by the fact that some call it macro-blogging software. In fact, if you visit a Friendica account's profile, it's not possible to filter the Timeline of their posts from the Timeline of the posts they've reshared. So, you could virtually create a page like this: https://poliverso.org/profile/saio But you could only do that if you don't share too much other content, otherwise the result would be like this: https://poliverso.org/profile/notizie which would be much more confusing 😅 However, Friendica is a very powerful software that allows you to republish your blog feed, as well as automatically reshare your federated blogs. Here I've listed some very interesting Friendica features for blogging: https://poliverso.org/display/0477a01e-1366-ebfd-2002-91a370393480 So, to recap, if you want to use Friendica to create your blog, you can: you can create a new account. Remember to define it as a "page account," if possible, but also remember that when you reshare content you like, it will appear on your profile page. However, if you don't need the full suite of tools that characterize a social media platform, you're better off using WordPress. Sharkey We're talking about software with a very nice interface, but it's still a social networking software. Being essentially a fork of Misskey, it also has a section for creating static pages that can be easily viewed from outside the Fediverse, but these pages can't be federated with Activitypub 😭. Ultimately, it seems even less suitable for creating a blog. If you absolutely must use a Fediverse social media platform, then you'd be better off going with Friendica! Hubzilla PS: There's also a software called Hubzilla, which is compatible with Activitypub, although it has developed its own communication protocol. I'm only mentioning it because it's a feature-rich and well-designed product, but its interface is quite complex and unfriendly, so although I've chosen to mention it, I can't recommend it as an alternative.
