Would you rather be lucky or good?

"I'd rather be lucky than good." --Lefty Gomez
-
@evan it’s mostly luck that I’m good
-
@evan I think it would depend on what we're talking about. For performing arts for example, good is probably more desirable than lucky. But gambling (or trading stocks)? I'd rather be completely lucky.
-
@evan Luck is just privilege and I'd rather be good at things than bad at things but have position because of privilege. That said the world we live in is driven by privilege so... :/
-
@evan sounds like you’re developing a Napoleon complex

@evan in my day i've sometimes been both good and lucky, and that's great when you can swing it, but if i could only have one i'd choose good every day <3
-
@evan I am already pretty lucky so I opted for more good than lucky, even though I might feel different if I were a baseball player.
-
@evan well, i do feel very lucky to be so damn good,
-
@evan I would rather be more good than lucky, but being more lucky than good seems to have worked really well for people over the years

@thaggie I don't understand.

@evan he’s attributed “I would rather have a general who was lucky than one who was good”
