My BSDCan submission has been approved!
It will be wonderful to be back in Ottawa, meet again all the "old" (and new) friends from the BSD world and, this time, present something that has saved me more than once... and it’s based on NetBSD!

@stefano on a complety different topic, Time Capsule was based on netbsd(if I remember well). It saved my life, but wasn’t great hardware-wise (mine was dead, I guess that was a dc conversion pb, but never tried to fix the board), and the old sharing technology AFP was not great for over the wlan mounts. The same (dedicated hw with zfs and smb) would rock nowadays.
Oh wait, an Italian guy did write somethin’ on the topic…
true info: I would love apple to get back in the timecaspule/airport technology, simplicity-wise it was great. At this time user experience was the core of Apple. I miss these days. -

@EnigmaRotor Those tools weren't probably profitable enough. No subscription, no dependencies - so they had to stop. Or the other companies' products just got better so Apple decided to concentrate on other stuff

@stefano from what I read today in the Mac-centric press, the move to subscription everywhere is confirmed. You used to pay a premium for a Mac, but the bundled software was of value (iLife/iWork). That would help justify high prices. The overall experience could justify expensive hardware. I may have problems considering the purchase if the value of the bundled software vanishes in the need of various subscriptions.

@EnigmaRotor the prices of the Apple hardware are, somehow, lowering. Rumors say that a "cheap" MBP could be introduced soon. So Apple is probably lowering its price point to make profit from the subscriptions.

@stefano for now, sub give ai features, but if the currently available feature set is later migrated to subscribers only, it won’t be acceptable. A Mac, without subscription of without internet could be a powerhorse by itself. The move to diskless terminals : already planed ? I had one Sun, in my engineering school : ok, not at home please. My laptop should work everywhere

@stefano yes, the entry level. But I doubt the pro line will get cheaper. (Of course having a look at the mbp M5 pro rumors, omg I’m doomed

@eniko @gabrielesvelto I seem to remember the "Graphics Gems" series of books containing a lot of great information on fixed point maths, including various useful algorithms. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure those books are long out of print (exorbitant prices anyway) - I read them at our university library over 20 years ago.
