@tsvenson i was right, i checked and it can only access 'xdg-download' and '.mozilla' or '.firefox', i don't recall. It's possible that your DE doesn't support FreeDesktop portals or env vars. Try to manually add the entire downloads path (e.g. /home/name/Downloads), it should work

Alright! XDG_DOWNLOAD isn't set it looks like. So will look up on that first.

Had to postpone digging into it. But turning on the global "Wayland windowing system" was an immediate win as it fixed Obsidian scaling.
So thanks for that quick bonus. Will have to sett aside some time as #Flatseal revealed so many interesting options to get my head around.
