🎉 Big Tech alternatives are finally getting mainstream media attention! 🎉
Yesterday, The Guardian published a piece on how people and organizations can leave Big Tech behind and choose ethical, privacy-focused alternatives, a topic we’ve been passionate about at Tuta for a long time. 🙌🔐
Thank-you to Steve Rose for mentioning Tuta. It’s great to see privacy-first solutions getting recognition. 🙏

@Tutanota great news! and perfect with our Big Tech Walkout full programme. Check it out here:

It doesn't mention search engines at all which I consider one of the most invidious big tech tools - tracking, biasing, advertising …
@gwentlarry @Tutanota mojeek search

@Tutanota It's a good article, and it's prompted me to join Mastodon. Already using LibreOffice and Proton. Browser is currently Firefox, but seriously considering Vivaldi. Keen to support a European IT infrastructure 🙂

@Tutanota I would really like to use Fairphone...but not for almost 600 euros...just way too much :(
@brainsuxx666 I guess you'll likely find it still too much, but anyway: The standard price recently dropped to 550 € and first-time buyers can always get another 50 € off (through a referral code from a "Keep Club" member – me, friends, strangers). /u

@WeAreFairphone I could spend about 300 on a phone :) Lets make a deal xd

@Tutanota yes the article was great EXCEPT for the section on social media that included so many travesties:
"A promising new contender is W, a 100% European platform (but nothing to do with the EU, as conspiracy theorists have claimed)."
Where do I start?
1) W Social is a fork of ATProto (aka Bluesky, something that the writer dismissed).
2) "Conspiracy Theorists"? Well, Euronews was the first to fact check with the European Commission, which denied any involvement.
Do better Steve Rose

@anderslund Hopefully next time!
Commenting on social medias is nice.
But over the years, I noticed that whenever you write to a journalist, they very often reply. They do read their emails and they notice.
When you read a piece about leaving big tech, you have someone interested in the topic. It is someone to write to about the Fediverse. This journalist will then look it up and it might come up in a next piece.

@bougiewonderland thank you!
It just made it sound so ominous... as soon as someone writes "conspiracy theorists" whatever follows loses all credibility in my eyes. Especially if it's not backed by actual claims - who are the conspiracy theorists? Links? I find the article - in this section - poorly written
