@scarpentier@pataterie.ca absolutely bonkers to me that emoji are cached.
Just link out to the remote asset.

@julian I think it's okay for privacy reasons but I feel there should be a way for the seldom used ones to get purged automatically.
If I can cache media for a few weeks, I can store emojis for a few months... I just don't like the idea of an infinitely growing cache.

@scarpentier@pataterie.ca the privacy reasons don't apply nearly as much when talking about emoji which are hosted by the instance.
Using them doesn't leak your IP to anybody except the instance, which if you're using the emoji I'd assume you trust the instance you're on to not store IPs or use them maliciously.
Linking to remote assets that anybody can specify, I do get the concern, even if I also think those concerns are overblown.
