In Western Europe, it was generally assumed that women were driven by lust in the Medieval period. By the late 1800s, the view had shifted to the idea that men want sex and women do not.
Has anyone traced how that shifted?
I assume the usual culprits (the reformation, enlightenment thinkers, racism, colonization) all were factors

@bomkatt I'm pretty sure I remember this being covered in Eleanor Janega's The Once and Future Sex (which is a very good read).
