People often post and say they make shameless plugs.People often post and say they make shameless plugs.
But no one ever talks about the shameful ones:
I think any post tagged #sponsored is a shameful plug. Or #Ad. Or any youtube video tagged that way. Or any video with "Includes paid promotion" and it's an infomercial or entirely sponsored.

I tossed in a can of black beans (because what else will I do with black beans) to the bean soup.People laugh at me because "lol you cook with a timer but season on vibes" but that's more "I cook with a timer to check on it, not to determine doneness." Using a timer to determine when it's done is a sin. It should be used to determine when you should stir it, more or less, and to determine when to check on it to see if it's done yet or how much more time it needs.

Honestly this is looking good. And the broth tastes divine, too.

Weird Elly fact: I can sew.Honestly the biggest impediment was I didn't have access to the big industrial grade sewing machines which would have allowed me to make reinforced seams. Denim is HARD to sew through. Not as hard as leather, but ohhh it is difficult.
I also had no way to rivet seams too (the secret to jeans that last a long-ass time is the riveting).

Weird Elly fact: I can sew.Weird Elly fact: I can sew. I'm not like, super amazing at it. But I can in fact do it. I can even use a sewing machine. I even made my own pair of jeans once. They weren't GOOD jeans. But they were wearable!

Had a dream they used ML and a robot to replace humans in stitching baseballs.@oblomov Fun fact! This makes the ball wildly inconsistent and variable, so it varies:
* from seamster/seamstress to eamster/seamstress
* batch to batch
* even the needles can subtly affect things
* it can even be spotted statistically ("juiced balls" were a thing a few years ago, people started hitting a ton of homers, and MLB was forced to admit something was fucky with the ball although they swore they "didn't change anything.")This is because the seam changes the way the ball flies, DRASTICALLY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_effect
Automating this would be a big win for the sport.

Honestlyβ¦ as fucked as this will sound, as someone whoβs done sewing like that before (sewing thick leather):
I feel bad for the workers tbh, that shit wrecks your hands, it wrecks your shoulders, and doing it 8 hours a day for peanutsβ¦ sure you could pay them better but you canβt stop the damage because it requires awkward positioning and dexterity. If itβs your hobby, you stop when your hands hurt. If itβs your job, you keep going and live with tendonitis.
Iβd be fine with automating this task.

Bahasa Indonesia is cool as Hell from a consistency standpoint.Bahasa Indonesia is cool as Hell from a consistency standpoint. I donβt know why it doesnβt get pointed to as a language thatβs easy for people to learn.
Itβs very logically consistent. Itβs like Toki Pona but with a real vocabulary.
No grammatical gender. Nouns are nouns.
No case system. Prepositions and word order do the job and it works the same way *every time.*
No verb conjugation by person or number. βI eatβ / βyou eatβ / βthey eatβ = βmakan.β Same verb. You just use context or a pronoun (most of the time you donβt even need it). Oh, and the pronouns are always the same. Saya makan = I eat. Saya minum = I drink. Kamu makan = you eat. kami = exclusive we (us but not you), kita = inclusive we (us and you).
Instead of using βyouβ, it will use titles or even your name. It is totally normal to say βElly mau kopi?β to mean βdo you (Elly) want coffee?β Yes even to friends.
If tense matters? You add a marker. sedang = right now (saya sedang makan = Iβm eating right now), sudah = have done so (saya sudah makan = I have eaten, etc.) and it is always the same. Always.
There are affixes before words (me-, di-, ber-, ter-)β¦ but they are consistent, the same always, and carry meaning. For example, me- marks a specific actor. βSaya memakan nasiβ = βI eat rice.β It shows intentional action. It does assimilate into words a bit (minor sound mutation) but thatβs more preventing your mouth from making awkward noises than complication and itβs easy to figure out and you get used to it fast.
I donβt know why this language isnβt taught more. It should be.

I like that I have a small but loyal cult following.I like that I have a small but loyal cult following.
I've been accused of being a cult leader before... it was by a literal sociopath with more issues than National Geographic, but still, the accusation is hilarious, but part of me wants to lean into it. (Don't worry, I won't :P)

Weird quirk of English:Weird quirk of English:
You use the singular form of something when there's exactly one of something, like "one chair. Plural for "two chairs", "three chairs", etc.
Simple. Logically consistent.
... yet we use the plural form for quantities less than one sometimes... yet singular other times...
Consider: "half a chair." But then "0.37 chairs."

wtf TIL a lightning strike only transfers about 15-350 Coulombs of charge.wtf TIL a lightning strike only transfers about 15-350 Coulombs of charge.
An AA battery passes like 3 kC of charge in its entire life.
Granted... lightning transfers that in like 0.5 seconds in multiple bursts lasting literal microseconds. An AA battery transfers that charge... over days/weeks.
