@mms oh, absolutely. De Chirico lived in Ferrara for some years - in a house we perfectly know.

TIL about Giorgio de Chirico and I was missing a lot. -
New blog post:@mirabilos @82mhz the post is against it - that's why I boosted it.
"But if I avoid doing everything that's hard and outsource all the thinking to AI, then I will pretty soon turn into a lazy and stupid blob who isn't capable of thinking for himself anymore, and that's a fate I want to avoid at all cost."

"My friends are lying in FOSDEM, I wish that I was there..." 🎶🇧🇪"My friends are lying in FOSDEM, I wish that I was there..." 🎶🇧🇪
Apologies to Pink Floyd for the slight lyric change, but that’s exactly how I feel today. I have some genuine, healthy envy for everyone gathering in Brussels this weekend!
Even though I can't be there in person, I’ll be there in spirit. Have an absolute blast, soak up the atmosphere, and learn everything you can. I am really looking forward to reading all your trip reports and blog posts in the coming days to catch up on what I missed.
Enjoy the waffles and the code...and the BSDs! 🍻

@stefano@ajlewis2 difficult to spot - as you suggested, connecting via cable could suggest if it's a wifi or general connection issue

Luckily, many of my clients are intelligent and well-prepared people.RE: https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@stefano/115984116493117731
Luckily, many of my clients are intelligent and well-prepared people. Needless to say, that email, before making me laugh, had already made the client laugh. He immediately thought he was dealing with people who were great at marketing but had little technical skill.
I presented my theory on software engineering, but he immediately tore it apart, declaring himself extremely skeptical. In his opinion, it is more likely to be a technique to lower our defenses and then try to sell us "security products" after a "pentest full of flaws". Or simply sheer incompetence.Anyway, their connection hasn't any open ports. So they can pentest anything they want to, as long as they want to.

This one beats them all and it’s going to make me laugh until tonight:@carson This is funny! But yes, this happens. When those asstments start with “if a superuser will start a vulnerable service running as root, and opens a firewall port, and gives the address to others, and and and and…”

“I’ve been assigned to carry out a penetration test on a server you manage. The test will be performed from the outside, since the perimeter security needs to be assessed. In order to perform the test, I therefore ask you to disable any firewall, protection, blacklist. If any of these are in place, the server might not be reachable and could prevent the assessment.”
I had to read it three times just to make sure I’d understood it properly.
