@mos_8502 on one hand, violence is a language they're very comfortable with and enthusiastic about (as long as it's directed at those they view as worthless), while decent Americans generally aren't. Trump likes the violence and protects those who commit violence on his behalf. But, I don't know how you peacefully respond to cold-blooded murder in broad daylight with dozens of witnesses and three or four camera angles, if there are no consequences.

@rl_dane and, for all my ranting about AI in a lot of contexts, I find Github's Dependabot really helpful, and Copilot code reviews sometimes are helpful (it makes stupid suggestions about half the time, but it also catches bugs, including security bugs, pretty regularly). So, I'm hesitant to fully switch to something else, but it also feels bad having Github being so dominant.

@genehack I haven't, and all two (2) of my deployments have been for a new app, but the config file for the usual use case (either proxy to an app server or serve static files) is so tiny it doesn't even matter. You just tell it the name and either the path or local port. No need to tell it to exclude .well-known for Let's Encrypt validation, it does it automatically.

@genehack yeah, I was very slow to come around, because it sounded a lot like the pitch for Java from a decade prior and I fancy myself a clever programmer. I'm the kind of programmer that thinks Perl is pretty neat because of TIMTOWTDI. But, I dunno. Once I tried it, I was hooked pretty fast. Turns out I'd rather everything be easy and fast and small without even trying, even if sometimes the code is a bit verbose. For me, the cost is low and the reward is huge.

@matt it feels like this is one area where it's even less pleasant than in the old days of Android development. I'm pretty sure there was a button to click to run your app in an emulator right in the Eclipse-based development environment, and it would just fire up. Maybe I misremember details, as it really has been a long time. Last time I built anything for Android was when Android was new. I got that first HTC phone with a keyboard. I remember the dev process sucked, but the emulator was neat.

That's right folks. After approximately 8 million hours of Civ games, effectively the only game I've ever played relatively speaking, I'm switching to Humankind (maybe). The Humankind folks did not ship with Denuvo malware, while Civ VII did. So, we play Humankind now. (I have never played it, merely read three reviews and thought, "That looks like Civ." and bought it because sale. I may hate it. But, at least it doesn't include malware.) #Civ7 #Humankind

xmlstarlet is kinda like jq, but for xml. That's pretty neat. (I know it predates jq, but I mostly missed the XML thing back when XML was the thing to do.)

@jumile as far as I know Fedora doesn't fuck around like that (I hate that practice on Ubuntu, it's far more user hostile than snaps themselves...at least if you intentionally install a snap you know what to cuss about). But, I confirmed this is actually a regular RPM. There's a file named "chromium-sandbox" in the package and I just left it at that, assuming it's intentional and I found other ways to do it.

I never stop getting a kick out of my cat knocking on the door to tell me to let some dogs out. She just likes having company. She doesn't like them being all up in her business, but she does like sitting next to them and chilling. (Forgive the trash, house is being renovated and the fence is being replaced, so there's just nothing but mess.)
