I finally got around to publishing the code for the #Jellyfin / #Plex alternative I have been working on for the past year or so!
I guess you might consider this a soft launch?
Introducing:
The Methadox Home Entertainment System
It's a lightweight media server designed to run on cheap hardware and with client apps for both mobile phones and that mini PC connected to your living room TV.
Currently, I know there are going to be some pain points for most people. So I'm inviting anyone who's comfortable with Docker, Let's Encrypt, and ffmpeg to help me iron out some of the kinks, make it more accessible to folks less comfortable with the details, and help with docs.

@Heliograph @leonieke hi! I would recommend looking into self-hosting via GoToSocial... it's really powerful and features-rich.
I have my account on a basic Hetzner plan, installed via YunoHost. I keep hearing that self-hosting Mastodon is very resource intensive and not worth the hassle... whereas GoToSocial is lightweight and easy to maintain.
There is an independent tool available called SLURP that even allows you to move your posts from Mastodon to GoToSocial. @box464 and @joel have written superb blog posts about this process (sorry I don't have links ready).

Altered Beast was the original pack-in for the SEGA Genesis.
Not the best one. That title belongs to Sonic 2.
Still, it was a smart choice. It showed, immediately, what 16-bit meant. More colours. Bigger sprites. Layered, moody backgrounds. Things the NES simply could not do.
This mattered in 1989. A lot of people genuinely thought the NES was the end of the road. Parents assumed one console would last a childhood. And to be fair, a 6-year-old could live inside Super Mario Bros forever.
But older kids wanted attitude. Something louder. Stranger. More aggressive.
Altered Beast delivered that. A beat ’em up where you claw your way out of the grave and transform into monsters to wreck everything on screen.
Yes, it can feel slow. Yes, the pacing is uneven.
But at launch, it looked brutal, alien, and powerful. And that was the point.
