Mastodon is not just another social platform.

@nopatience ended up writing a post in reply to this subject https://hamishcampbell.com/foss-just-fork-it-delusion/
@hamishcampbell That's a great post.
I may have judged you to quickly. So damned tired of meeting, reading or otherwise experiencing people that seem to love complaining about stuff, but doing something about it? Nah... hard pass. I'll stick with complaining.
Sorry for most likely misjudging you. Probably need to take a step back and consider my own harsh and likely too quick to jump the gun on conclusions mindset...

Mastodon is not just another social platform.
We're a movement, putting people first, championing a people-centred internet. đťđ

@Mastodon I'd actually say we weren't championing anything. And by not championing rage, polarisation and monetisation of attention, we are putting people where they are by default: first.

@Mastodon It's not a platform in the same way that cities are not a platform. Mastodon is a tool for setting up associating hives.

@nopatience That's the first time in a while someone has apologized on social media, we must be doing something right in this #openweb reboot, nice move you get a fallow.

@Mastodon đ also happens to be very close to my favourite colour.
And European. Because tech sovereignty.

@Mastodon Mastodon is also not "a platform". It's MANY platforms, all (well, most) interacting with each other through shared protocols.

@dirkblank @nopatience I agree with you. Mastodon is the most mature software I use on the Fediverse. I also use it more often, although I understood better Pixelfed dynamics more recently, because I prefer to communicate using words. That's also the reason recently I restarted a blog connected to the Fediverse, but I don't care if Mastodon team doesn't mention the other apps in using that are connected via one common protocol.
P. S. I've just content now: I have personal accounts on 7 different apps connected via AP. I use 95% of my time writing on my Mastodon account.
@everton137 I would even say that it is more the task of us bloggers and content creators to promote and mention other Fediverse software like e.g. @loops, @bookwyrm or @bonfire.

It must be hart to unverstand that the movement Fediverse is a decentralized or federated social network.
It is living because of it's diversitiy. And it is not only connected by AP e.g .Zot, Diaspora.
Does Mastodon still meet all specs in AP?
AP was supported by W3C, but that changed.
If Mastodon still bends the specs to it's advantage, Mastodon will be in 5 years the same shithole as X.
Please come out of your bubble and see what is actual in development.
@dirkblank No it won't. Mastodon as the software is used on many servers and is not a walled garden.
And Mastodon doesn't bend the spec to it's advantage in a malicious way as you accuse them to do. They simply made some design choices earlier than others and Mastodon itself wasn't at first build with ActivityPub as it's basis but with OStatus.
Besides all of that is the Fediverse â in the small definition â based upon ActivityPub. What you mean is the Open Social Web.

@dirkblank ... like.. why should they? Why does Mastodon have to talk about other pieces of software? Like... why?
I don't get it. Mastodon is a fantastic project and much because of it ... I'm here, and I'm sure tons of people like me discovered the Fediverse because of Mastodon.
They didn't have to tell me about all the other projects, I found them anyway. I want Mastodon to be Mastodon. As long as they are true to AP and continue to champion that... I'm happy.
Obligating them to promote other fediverse projects seem unnecessary. Let them stay focused on building their software, and Pixelfed can focus on theirs.
Should curl promote wget? Or should Fedora promote Ubuntu?
It makes no sense. They are all part of the same "movement", but that doesn't mean they hvae to champion each other, does it?
@nopatience @dirkblank yeah, and, i think that everyone will find other platform when they need
(and i am not understand that is there any problem to advertising mastodon ad(or not even an ad) on mastodon?) -
