It's something I never thought about in twitter times.
Landing on the fediverse, I read Eugen opinion on the matter, and I understood why "quote reply" was something he would not want to encourage from the gui.

Somehow I felt that organizing harassment without an algorithm promoting viral content was not as easy but, anyway, not being a harasser, I quickly adapted to simply reply and, eventually, boost the original post.

I feel that those UI restrictions to what you can, or cannot "quote reply", could give a false sense of safety

Here I used the proper new feature, so you can detach your post from my quote.
But if I were keen to explicitly annoy you, I could have just copied and pasted the link to your post, like I'm doing here.

The result for me is the same, it's even asking me if I want to be nice and transform it in a proper educated quote 😎
