@as400 In the past I haven't had much luck with setting things in that tab making much of a difference. I just revisited and by bulk setting everything to "good" maybe there is a ~1 W difference if I squint at the averages. "AMD things" perhaps.I think the CPU number in btop correlates to the package power. My thought is that maybe moving from a 95W CPU to a 35W would cut the power in half. That would be ~10W on a 5650GE but not the 3W on a 5825U.Hmm, I think I just talked myself out of that 5650GE in my aliexpress shopping cart. Ha.

@stefano @pertho no experience with MySQL in the past 15 years, but it definitely can make a difference for heavy Postgres workloads. And of course a large record size is optimal if the dataset is a bunch of large files.

Happy to share that #BoxyBSD remains up!Recently I got asked about my @BoxyBSD@bsd.cafe project, which offers free VPS instances of vary #BSD based systems for learning and educational purposes and I'm happy to share that this projects remains available. @release_candidate My dual-boot thinkpad gets about equivalent battery life under Linux and NetBSD. NetBSD doesn't suspend properly (though it does on an older thinkpad that is netbsd-only), which I should probably try to debug at some point.

I've been running two degraded ZFS arrays for the last few weeks (Debian host).Yeah, I know. Whatevs.One of the pools was basically "scratch" backup space and one of the spindles died (breaking the utility of the mirror). Pulled the drive, wiped the remaining, put back in service with minimum fuss as a single drive. I'll throw another spindle at it when drive prices drop again.The other array had the SSD cache die and it's been chugging along fine ever since. Not a big deal, but from a "experience" point of view it "feels slow" like a working md array. New SSD arrived in the mail so that'll get sorted sometime today/tomorrow.So, what's this post about?Linux peeps, if you are thinking about md arrays, just stop, take the time, and throw 'yer leg over the zfs horse. I've made some progress on suspend with FreeBSD on my Thinkpad T14 gen2iTurns out there's a simple BIOS setting to enable S3 suspend—now it works!Sort of, that is: - I'm getting tons of errors from the intel wifi driver on resume, and have to do `service netif restart` to get it working again- The screen isn't locked on suspend; guess I have to add an rc.d script for that- For some reason, the shutdown button in Xfce doesn't shutdown anymore after I've resumed from suspend, but only logs me outBut I'm getting closer, and learning a lot in the progress.
