Visible mending
I was thinking these socks were through but then I decided to try a technique I've seen recently: adding an actual patch.
I picked up stitches below the whole damaged area, a few stitches wider than the damage. I knit enough rows to cover everything, then grafted the live stitches at the top and sewed the sides down.
On the inside I got away the worst damage and then wove loosely over the whole to fix the sides.

I like this technique, I was planning to use it on a modern knit stretch top, on really fine needles.

I had problems with weaving a long time. Until I got a speedweave clone.
After a few mends I'd understood the concept and ditched the metal thingie. But I still use the wooden base with the rubber. A small embroidery hoop probably would work as well.
The most important thing is to really fix your field of repair: it has to be rectangular, straight and at even tension. For socks at about the tension the fabric has when it's worn. And then just work until the hole is covered.

I’m going to do more of this in 2026: I just finished my first attempt at darning / #VisibleMending.

So this is my new project: A solar powered website:https://solar.stfn.pl/en/The website is hosted on a Raspberry Pi Zero server running from solar panels and batteries, living in a shed in my field.
