Many moons ago, I used #RSS feed readers to read blogs. A recent post by @pluralistic has pointed out that this technology is not gone, and we can use it to make the experience of the Internet, to borrow Cory's word, bearable.

OK. To all you out there in the know, a request for advice: what do I use on Ubuntu? I would really like not to see ads by the reader, it kind of defeats the purpose.
Huge thanks for suggestions.

@alberto_cottica @pluralistic Well, I use Vivaldi as my browser, and that has an RSS reader built into it.
I don't know, offhand, of any native RSS feed readers for Linux... but I also haven't gone looking for them.
There are tons of self-hosted web-based ones, though.

@skysong Vivaldi is an idea. Web-based tend to come with ads, so not eager to go down that route. Thanks!

@alberto_cottica @pluralistic I like #newsboat. I use full-text-rss to pull down full articles where I can. I use feedaround to read feeds that are supposed to exist but are broken because of cloudflare filters. https://github.com/alrs/feedaround

@alberto_cottica After a little digging, it looks like there are actually a ton of local RSS apps for Linux! The following page describes several: https://itsfoss.com/feed-reader-apps-linux/

@skysong thanks, great find! I have some of those in the Ubuntu repository, but I wanted to do some reading and comparing before I dive in.

@alberto_cottica @pluralistic I'm a big fan of Liferia, a local RSS reader. It is the backbone of my desktop media consumption. #Liferia
