Good morning Fedi friends! 🌈✨
Made it back to France and now I’m at my in laws’.
I forgot a wired keyboard at my parents’ in Italy and I only have a wireless keyboard and mouse with me, which were never paired to my Raspi. Mother-in-law came to my rescue and gave me an old wired mouse… and with #Ubuntu’s accessibility setting and on screen keyboard I was able to log in and connect my gear. Ouf!
Happy #Linux / #Raspi week to me (till I get home to Paris) 🐧
Now I had some powerful epiphanies yesterday, with my rickety Sharkey instance.
Sad to say that because it locked me out, and recovery codes aren’t working either, its fate is now sealed. I lost all trust in it and won’t spend any more precious time on it.
But this ONLY relates to my self-hosted Sharkey, which has been cursed from the start, not the software itself, which is WONDERFUL.
I’ll stop putting my energy on it and carry on with my plan (a quiet corner of the Fediverse) on @ruud’s calckey.world — which worked perfectly for me last year, when I was test driving Sharkey. Time to resurrect the account and set up monthly recurring donations.

@elena oh, so much time spent and without any success. But maybe in future you'll make it working. Regarding Search it needs to be setup as YunoHost installation doesn't install all the dependecies. I didn't activate 2FA as they tend to fail sometimes. Happened to me with Contabo for example.

my self-hosted Sharkey instance had a brief life, but it was a very illuminating experience for me... RIP now (I have uninstalled it)

Sometimes admitting defeat and moving on is the best way... (I'm someone who typically keeps persevering, no matter what).
I started setting up my #Sharkey account on https://calckey.world and I almost wanted to cry over how easy things are over there.
Search works, following accounts is seamless... It just... works as intended.

While setting up self-hosted services is very empowering and useful to learn, I think that many tools worth be runned as community-hosted services. For time-availability, security and sustainability. So just enjoy! 😏

@marcelcosta @ruud the ease of use and peace of mind are just priceless...
(2FA AND recovery codes not working were the final nail in the coffin for my self-hosted Sharkey)

@zeitverschreib Thanks! That's good to know. My self-hosted instance had SO MANY problems that it wasn't worth fixing... also: it locked me out so, no choice really but get rid of it 😢
