Incredible Valentine's Day lunch at Plantuguese in #Bristol. We had the francesinha and the bacalhau, and yes that cod fillet is vegan!

@afewbugs Wow, that looks great.
Banana blossom, how interesting. It's very hard work to prepare them for cooking (you have to pull out the hard stamen from each one, and they're very sticky), but I never imagined them turned into a filet.

Thanks for the alt text on that little stirrer - it does look a lot like that (at least from what I recall in class)

Carrying on our #vegan Valentine's weekend @SaintlySin and I had the loveliest, most restful and relaxing weekend at The Base in #Bristol https://thebaseretreat.co.uk/, a luxury cabin and spa that funds an animal sanctuary full of friendly, charismatic animals who are very keen to hang out with visitors! We had a lovely time meeting curious, chatty turkeys and ducks, eating delicious cooked breakfasts (including gluten free!) and getting soggy on purpose in the spa as opposed to just getting rained on.

I managed to forget my swimsuit but managed to save the spa experience at the last minute by grabbing some bits from a charity shop on the way from Plantuguese.

Ooooh, that sounds and looks like a lovely weekend indeed :)
That cabin is gorgeous, and I love the idea of a sponsored animal reserve/sanctuary you can actually visit. Win-win for all.
The free water taps are also popping up around here, and I too think they're amazing. Especially on a warm day or well even just any day really.

@afewbugs Why is there an app associated with free water refills?

@afewbugs they have one at Victoria Station (London) but it's often out of order. How a tap can be out of order only god knows .

@Heartofcoyote it's an app that tells you where the machines are located. Honestly I don't see why it has to be an app rather than a map on a webpage (I mean I do, it's for extracting saleable data to offset the cost of the machines) but it is pretty useful when travelling - I have actually used it to find the very confusingly located machine in Manchester station

@Tattooed_Mummy yeah I've seen that one and it does seem to be out of order more often than it isn't. Cafe Nero behind it have happily refilled my bottle a couple of times when that happens

@afewbugs when I was a kid there were water fountains. I remember drinking from one at Tower of London.
Even victorians had them. We need to wake up and install more. -

@afewbugs @Tattooed_Mummy mainland Europe and the other whole world apart from USA still uses British Standard Pipe threads for their plumbing, I suspect this is due to Britain exporting techniques and materials to the wider world during the Victorian era..
I spent a good deal of last Thursday evening and Friday AM on the outskirts of Colchester, Essex surrounded by toilets, basins, and plumbing fittings (I was working with my friend installing a sound system in the showroom for the customers and workers) - it was interesting to see how much was still made in Britain (particularly plumbers tools) even today and how because we use the same fittings everything from Europe works over here and vice versa..

@afewbugs Exactly. Someone spent thousands of dollars for an app to tell you where their free products are and track your locations.
Otherwise, I agree it’s cool. Free drinking water access should have been built into the infrastructure to begin with, but at least it’s being addressed.

@afewbugs I hope you don't have to download the app to refill :)
