A couple of arguments, if I may:
1) why reinvent the wheel ???
2) why a proprietary system (as it is derived from bluesky)
3) why not simply ask every member state to put up an official mastodon instance and use that ??? That would be much simpler and cheaper !!

I will be stunned if Brooke and Dave don't win this one. They understand the assignment, and they seem to be the only people who do. No fucking around with boats and projects. They're fishing. They're chopping fire wood. They're not injuring themselves through foolishness.
They are cooking and eating in their camp, which, in ordinary circumstances would be bad news (they even know it and said so), but they're up against far larger incompetence.

@vladcampos @_elena Well, I guess a counterpoint would be that them deciding to do this thing while pretending nothing at all exists in this space in Europe currently is also creating a sense of division already.
