I have a strong suspicion that the VM running FediMeteo is being throttled.

I have a strong suspicion that the VM running FediMeteo is being throttled. The network speed is abysmal, and the same goes for I/O.
Tomorrow morning I’ll try moving it to another provider at the same price. Let’s see, I’m really curious to observe what happens.

@stefano if you wanna, I can set up a freeBSD jail for you for fedimeteo @ https://dmesgd.nycbug.org/dmesgd?do=view&id=8510 (lion)

@sysop thank you for your offer. FediMeteo currently has 39 jails so I'll keep it in a separate VM, to keep everything together.
I'm doing this because I want to continue to serve it (and increase the coverage) from a 4 euro/month VPS as long as possible. I'd have plenty of powerful hosts that could run it, but a mission is a mission 😉 -

@stefano sometimes VM providers migrate them between metals. This can upset things. Do a full power-off and start the VM afresh from the control panel and see if that helps first.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this: #ownyourdata means also #ownyourhardware

@mirabilos I did it and it didn't help.
It isn't the first time I see something like this. If the VM has higher CPU or Disk or Network usage, providers throttle it. ZFS send is extremely slow and loading the system, even if the disk activity is low.
I'll try and see, then contact the provider. -

@ColonelKramer I know. But I want to continue to demonstrate that this can be run from a 4 euro per month VPS.
I have plenty of powerful hardware to use, but this is a mission.
