    I’m going to be participating in the Growing the Open Social Web workshop at Fediforum on March 3, 2026. I’m excited to talk to other people who care about the Fediverse about ways to connect more people through ActivityPub.Fediforum invited attendees to publish position papers before the workshop. SWF has a number of hypotheses about growth of the social web; I’ll try to summarise some of them here.Growth can’t come at the expense of privacy. People currently on the Fediverse must have the tools they need to preserve their privacy as the network grows. This means privacy from other users, as well as privacy from new platform operators. Expanding the options for private interactions on the Fediverse, like end-to-end encrypted messages and private groups, is necessary for preserving privacy as the user base and platform list expands.Connecting platforms to the Fediverse is our most efficient way to grow. There are already billions of people on social platforms across the Internet. Getting these platforms to let users publish to the Fediverse, as well as having two-way interactions with remote users, lets people share in the benefits of the Fediverse with a platform and interface that they’re already used to. Even when brand new social platforms adopt ActivityPub, they bring their new features and users.Connecting communities helps us grow fast and stay cohesive. Bringing formal and informal communities onto the Fediverse is a great way to enable a lot of new users quickly. By formal communities, we mean organized groups like clubs, universities and schools, professional societies, enterprises, or local and regional governments. These groups can set up their own places on the Fediverse, like Mastodon servers, and provide user accounts for all their members. (One great way to connect formal communities is to Fediverse-enable the community platforms they already use.) These new Fediverse users have the kind of connections in place that retain active users, as well as the support they need to use the Fediverse. More informal communities, like people sharing the same profession, fans of a particular hobby, or users of a language or technology, can be great additions to the Fediverse, but these groups are less cohesive and less likely to bring their own infrastructure.People come to social networks for existing social ties. Bringing on new users one-by-one is the most difficult way to grow this network. The best way to engage new users on the network, and to keep them active and interested, is to make sure they can connect to people they already know and care about. That may be friends, family, colleagues and neighbours, or brands, creators, and publications they recognise. Our onboarding processes for Fediverse users need to encourage the social contacts so that people feel a reason to stick around for day 2, 7, and 30.We’re looking forward to engaging with the Fediforum community on these and other topics.     xmpp is not "one standard" it's an extensible mess and no two people use the same client/server combination, leading to some kind of factorial explosion of mutually incompatible software. there are over five hundred XEPs and any given project has a unique view of which ones are "necessary" and which are "supported" and which are "deprecated" and which ones you should go to jail for even reading.xmpp has xeps for systems administration, internet of things shit, service discovery, and a million other things that should never have been shoved into a chat protocol, while the xeps that are intended to fix the actual issues that affect users are "deferred" because it's a hell of a lot easier to invent an entire new use case for xmpp than it is to fix any problems with existing xeps.this, combined with the excessively verbose markup, means that starting from scratch has two incredibly attractive benefits: one, you don't have to learn this tremendous bureaucratic protocol maze, and two, just about any wire format you can think of is going to perform better than xmpp over slow or intermittent network connections, which are the majority of internet connections.

    Grandiose day! However I haven’t read the book yet thou’. I spent my evening today building a automation by forking Tinker hack Blusky integration for running playlist etc. I am halfway there but when I run tested it – the last block doesn’t seem to work so I’ve contacted them about it. I hope soon to get help. This year I did lot of techie projects for myself like vibe coding built ways for me after taking course on ai and then vibecoding snake game and all of that. Later, doing html/css course to understand the basics and loving it all and then jamming up with neocities more. This year I also got excited with Nothing community project challenge – and built a marketing plan even the date was done and all. As I got to know late – being so inspired by the brand I went ahead and did something cool too. Nothing has cool software and hardware. The UI is cool as they say it. Got back to the ropes of smartphones as I grabbed Vivo iQOO Z10X as my daily driver – as they call it! I’ve since loved watching tech videos alot. I do love tech. I am not very much diving into fitness gadgets as of yet. As that would just tumble me down of anxiety passage I find.Well, the Founder of Mastodon is giving the next baton to new guy. Felix! Also, Eugen did a wonderful job with Mastodon. I saw his interview on YouTube while dinnering my way up through the day. I also read how a 101 year old Barista has been serving since WWII – that was the good news over bsky this morning. Also one 87 year old lady did something cool – which I don’t recall. You know we don’t care much to remember good news as we keep bad news itched in our brain for like whole time and all. Bad news is impactful is it? It creates fear and then that becomes memorable all of a sudden. Ah!
