humans are so funny. let's go vaguely to very bald basically everywhere. except the scalp, let's just really fucking go for it there (and also have it fall out for lots of folks when they come of age). also let's put some in the smelly corners for good measure

@aeva I remember reading that a number of human evolutionary coincidences can be explained by us heading down the path to being aquatic mammals. Like why do babies have so much skin fat as opposed to organ fat… it makes them float.
The hair situation is one of those aquatic-like adaptations.

@lritter i think hair would be even better if it were turing complete such that having more of it meant you could write little hair programs to do automation. otherwise I think nature's decisions are more or less fine, but I'd be fine if it was made voluntary so you could have more or less of it in specific places if you wanted that would be more egalitarian.

@lritter naturally the most powerful hair style would be the afro due to its exquisite computational capacity. you could tell a true intellectual and/or gamer by their careful attempt to minmax their computational power vs various important mundane concerns like "fitting through doors".

@lritter does it work if you have very long pathologically straight hair? I feel like my connection to the cosmos has improved in the last ~15 years or so since I started growing it out, but that could be a coincidence.

but also, i don't see why straight hair wouldn't work the same, the actual strand length is what should matter, right?
/me remembers when we used to add steel wool to the ends of tv antennas to get better reception...

Do you mean other than the days I hate my hair because it feels like invisible spider webs vaguely touching my skin but I can't brush them off? Thinking of hair? or
The days when I've definately had way too much esspresso and I can feel every single hair vibrate hate kind of day?

@justine @crisl_at Yes, I do. I've tested both SeaweedFS and Garage for the Mastodon media files - while migrating from Minio, I saw that Garage started to be extremely slow and use all my cpus after more or less 60 GB. SeaweedFS is much more tailored to this use case and it's fast and extremely light on CPU and other resources.
The people developing Garage suggested me to re-test with a recent release as there have been some improvements but I haven't performed those tests, yet.
At the moment, I'm happy with SeaweedFS and I'm using it both for the BSD Cafe and illumos Cafe instances.

No this just keeps happening. Someone comes up with an idea for a hashtag and people get involved and it's a positive thing for participants and then the people "in charge" (even though it's just a hashtag) turn out to be shitty or have done shitty things and the whole community falls apart instead of not letting the shitty people continue to claim ownership of a grassroots community that never truly had anyone "in charge" anyway
