    Running 14.3-STABLE right now. Intel iwlwifi driver with an Intel AX210 card giving me full 250/40 Mbps (the maximum of my DSL line) via WiFi :)

    Random connection issues, that I had with -RELEASE are solved in the current -STABLE 🙂

    5Ghz, 802.11ac with 80Mhz wide channel...

    We're making fast progress with FreeBSD on the modern desktop 🙂

      @Gargron @Edent That's a good crossword-puzzle word.

      @benjamineskola @gme no lock-in involved. I proposed several solutions and they decided they want OpenBSD as they're already using it for some services (mainly ssh and VPN endpoints) and they appreciate it. Their internal IT staff is able to manage it on their own, at least for basic stuff.
      Mailcow is nice - I'm using and installing it when needed, but it's another "product". Having different components involved means being able to replace them individually.
      But yes, I can understand your point of view and you're not wrong.

      @Edent I think you need a lot of sugar or starch content, so for example leafy greens aren't going to work well. People make tomato wine all the time, though!

      @Edent I don't know for sure but I think samogon is the catch-all term for spirits made from mixed ingredients.

      @gme @stefano I don’t think that’s entirely fair — I kind of see your point, but the difference is that you can in principle find someone else who can manage a FreeBSD server or even an OpenBSD one. The pool of potential sysadmins might not be huge, but it’s there. It’s not at all the same kind of vendor lock-in as Google or Microsoft.

      (You’re right, though, that there is a value in choosing a more widely-adopted system. But it’s not unlimited value otherwise we’d always just have to choose Google or Microsoft despite the lock-in; there’s also value in it being open and documented.)

      Most fruits and vegetables can be fermented into alcohol, right?
      Grapes = Wine.
      Potato = Vodka.
      Wheat = Beer.
      Apricot stones = Amaretto.
      etc etc.

      But are there things which *can't* be turned into alcohol?

      I've never seen tomato wine. Or onion schnapps.

      🌊 We’re proud to share our new study in npj Urban Sustainability, which makes a first-order estimate of how many buildings across the Global South are exposed to sea-level rise. Using Google’s Open Buildings data and a high-quality elevation model, we find ~3 million buildings at risk with 0.5 m of rise—a level already locked in even under rapid emissions cuts—and >100 million if emissions continue.

      These findings reveal the vast scale of buildings that could be saved with swift fossil fuel cuts—and show the urgent need to prepare for the changes already underway.
