@_elena @yunohost I was really close to setting up a Yunohost server some months ago, but being a noob in this, got lost when it came to port forwarding. Think they could improve their docs on that part. Given that the Friendica instance I'm on is going to close in January, the Diaspora pod I'm on is currently down, & I want to go beyond the 500 character limit mastodon.social has, seems I need to try again to fix those things.

I have started the same journey with the help of @neutrinet in Brussels and am very happy I did. I learned a lot and keep on learning.
As a self-employed musician, I find it very empowering to not rely on paid or centralised services for my digital life, since our fields can be quite precarious at times. It keeps the costs low, and the level of freedom high.

Could I request in the Backup/Restore part, a step-by-step practical guide to actually verifying the backup can restore? This has always been the most difficult part for me to wrap my mind around it, and most people/guides just kind of handwave over how to do it.

Also one fear I have: if I am on a VPS, what if my bill is $5/month, except one month it jumps to $250+ because of traffic? Can that happen? Ty Ty <3

Thank you very much for starting the series on Yunohost!!
I use it for some years incl. a successful migration from Debian 11 to 12. YH saved me a lot of money for productivity apps like n8n.io.

Still the whole experience does not come without effort. I had to learn that not all apps work really well. I would never install again Matrix, Synapse, Mastodon, it was a mess. But I am happy with Peertube, Pixelfed.
For n8n.io it works well but not for all integrations (due to SSO?).

After using Yunohost for a few years I am now more confident to use more complex self-hosting solutions like Coolify which provide me with more flexibility and more native updates as it is based on docker.

Nevertheless I believe Yunohost is a good choice for beginners with some aka a little enthusiasm and time for IT.
