Ladder-experienced people and adjacent:I have been spending significant time on a ladder and exerting upward force in order to repair a ceiling. I tend to stand with the peak of the ladder behind me, and brace against the next step up.I have been getting truly epic bruises on the backs of my calves. Like, enough to make it painful to squat. Any advice? Does one just get used to it? Should I be wearing squishy leg warmers? Put shin guards on backwards?“Turn around, dingus” is understandable but would make it hard to access the corners.#askFedi #diy

Ta-da!It took me 2 weeks of hard work, but it's finally done!(The frame uses 2 dowels per corner for the joinery. No miter joints because I haven't done it yet and chickened out.)Hopefully my bedroom won't be as cold during this winter. ⛄#Woodworking #DIY

Painting in Metal with Selective Electroplating. Most research on electroplating tries to find ways to make it plate parts more uniformly. [Ajc150] took the opposite direction, though, with his selective electroplating project, which uses an electrode mounted on a CNC motion system to electrochemically print images onto a metal sheet.https://github.com/ajc150/Selective-Electroplating/tree/main#cnc #electroplating #diy #engineering #media #tech #maker #art #python #programming #news

Heart Rate Monitoring via WiFi.Before you decide to click away, thinking we’re talking about some heart rate monitor that connects to a display using WiFi, wait! Pulse-Fi is a system that monitors heart rate using the WiFi signal itself as a measuring device. No sensor, no wires, and it works on people up to ten feet [30 meter] away.https://news.ucsc.edu/2025/09/pulse-fi-wifi-heart-rate/#PulseFi #wifi #heartrate #monitoring #diy #esp32 #engineering #media #tech #maker #news
