'Mediated' Network Framing for Bluesky
The most recent developments over on #Bluesky make clear it is not a 'federated' network. But how then can we characterize it?
The brilliant L. Rhodes @lrhodes makes the case it should be considered a 'mediated' network: Federated and mediated networks >>> https://destructured.net/federated-mediated-networks
Think of the difference as federation keeps the burglars out of town, whereas mediation relies on door locks and security cameras to keep you safe from your neighbors.

@mastodonmigration @lrhodes I actually can’t keep them out of my feed, can’t block the instance. Some nice people here helped me try but don’t have that option with mobile/Mona anymore

That's kind of the problem with mediated networks. They can sneak in through an open window.
[Edit: See @lrhodes reply for how to block the bridge.]

@mastodonmigration @lrhodes I used to be able to block instances but the option doesn’t show up. That actually kind of pisses me off - mediated networks I don’t want should GTFO of my space
