Okay, this is definitely not indie. And Jose Jose is a relatively famous Latin crooner.

But please give it a chance because <I wrote here a bunch of words that just can't do this song any justice>. Yeah, holy shit indeed, man.

I lot of Latin music from when I was younger sounds like this, because "urban" stuff hadn't yet proliferated through.

The performance and the simple but beautiful lyrics almost always make me at least a bit teary eyed.

Goddammit, it's like if Shakespeare was born again into a group of people who happened to form a band. Every song a story that is both funny and cringe, sometimes sad, but always a good time.

I think this is my favorite from one of the very few bands that make me listen to everything they have put out.

This isn't really "indie" or even obscure, but if you have never heard of Atahualpa Yupanqui then I strongly feel you must correct that.

This song is from a poem, and I would recommend you find and read it's translation, you will see something like "The axles of my cart, I shall never grease" but between those few words there are several worlds of meaning, of being.

This is a viral hit cover of an already famous urban latin hit.

Spanish is a gendered language. Words have inherent gender. But the language allows for a change in letters to change genders.

The song's name "Bichota" is already a reverse gendered word (from "Bichote"). But then this cover FURTHER re-genders the word (to "Bichoto") and the lyrics to make the song sound both queer as fuck and even more amazing than the original.

@invadersil Over here we measure in litres. But $5.20 means literally nothing to me, like for reals I have no idea what the price should be.

Just that $20 is mostly a full tank and I didn't get anywhere near that.

Also we don't measure in gallons here but in liters. Historically the price hovers around 60 and 70 cents per litre. I want to say today's price was well over a dollar, but I'm not sure since I just don't look at the price (really!) I just give the cashier a $20 bill.

I know gas prices have gone up, so I expected maybe at least 75% full tank, and I got maybe 55% to 65% full

Not to brag but I usually don't care about the price of gas.

To be able to work and try to be middle class in this island you have to have a car, so for me gas prices are an inescapable evil. I usually hand the cashier two tenners, and since I usually drive small conpacts, that is enough to fill the tank.

Today though... I think It's the first time in decades that I got shocked at the pump.

Even I have a hard time deciphering this song's lyrics, but that's because this song wasnt made to be heard while fully awake.

Balún, the band's name, is what the word 'balloon' sounds like to a Spanish speaker. I'm 85% sure this band is from Puerto Rico, and sadly, I think they are no longer around.

I don't think this song was super popular except in certain scenes. But it lives rent free in my heart.

I don't have much to say about this except that this is such a fun song for me. Also, the video, which is also fun, has that radio announcer that mimics old style Spanish radio broadcasters which gives it a nostalgic kick on a modern sounding song.

I don't know how famous this song is, and I do not know any other songs by Tunacola, so if you have a favorite let me know.
