Oh boy…https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/08/china/china-supercomputer-hackers-hnk-intl@dch I have a cluster with 500EB at work that has enough free space to hold it, but the network bottleneck is still a sticky issue -
Oh boy…https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/08/china/china-supercomputer-hackers-hnk-intl@rysiek how do you exfiltrate 10PB? How long does it take, where do you upload it to? -

I start my modern car (2023) that's been sitting for about ten days.@ltning @stefano
> A car that shuts down for a software update like a bloody PC?
so much easier than making an appointment with the dealer to have them install the updates for you, flash your ECU, etc etc
> A car that notifies you of things that are not explained?
didn't read the manual did you, even old cars make noises you gotta read the manual for
> Removing basic drive info from the natural field of vision?
I'm still wondering when people are going to come out of the woodwork and complain about the Mini Cooper or Prius having the speedo/gauges in the center, out of your natural field of vision -

I wonder how many people are still under the impression that decentralization requires a blockchain?@sun @liaizon and I think for that to work, you can't send anything to servers directly. It all has to go to some kind of global feed that everyone subscribes to
Then you can truly have a nomadic identity with no technical complications. Nobody has to know where their recipients are. They're just recipients. -

I wonder how many people are still under the impression that decentralization requires a blockchain?@sun @liaizon as long as your communication protocol is decoupled from the network/transit so it could come over any medium without the other end needing anything more than just access to the same communication medium you can be pretty safe from censorship
if your protocol can validate providence of the data and prove nobody's lying because of math, you can trust it
as long as users are decoupled from a specific server (probably because they directly control a private key), users can be nomadic
if anyone can join the network, you're permissionless and the decentralization is not just technical but also social
at this point you probably have the basis for a protocol that properly fits the definition of "decentralized"
the overhead of this limits the use cases today, but maybe some day we'll look at all of this like a simple operation -
It's Friday evening. -
some Coinbase customers are horrified that the Coinbase app is encouraging them to gamble@molly0xfff he said he was annoyed not horrified -

bsd.cafe has a chatmail server!@stefano @forgetpassword hello yes I am the FreeBSD implementation maintainer. Their deployment/configuration tooling is heavily dependent on Debian/systemd, so I re-implemented it with a self-contained Chef cookbook
it's fully compatible and about 95% identical. A few minor changes are made like keeping the scheduled maintenance jobs as crons as they migrated to systemd timers.

Claude is down again and I am seeing people basically go through withdrawal.@mttaggart people need to realize they should just use Qwen, China is far more reliable
