MastoBlaster build 95 is out, and I am getting close to declaring it stable. The biggest update in this build is making the Home tab behavior completely explicit. Under the hood, I changed the tab dispatch in MastoBlasterApp.swift, added the Home tab notifications in NotificationDelegate.swift, and moved the actual scroll/refresh behavior into TimelineView.swift so the timeline state stays coherent. Here is exactly how it works now:Tap Home from another tab: Switches back to the Home tab.Tap Home while already there: Scrolls the current timeline to the newest posts.Tap Home again while already at the top: Refreshes the timeline (with a 1.5-second cooldown to prevent accidental spamming).Long-press Home: Opens the timeline picker.Other changes and fixes included in build 95:Added a setting to completely disable Apple Intelligence.Redesigned the notification view to be larger and make much better use of screen space.Fixed the compose window layout for small devices like the iPhone mini.Profile and banner images can now be tapped to enlarge.Added support to approve or deny follower requests.Added per-instance and per-account connection timeouts.Added a visible Back button to the settings sheet.Updated the filtered notice UI: it now shows "Filtered Post ()" directly in the header and removes the separate "Matched:" line.Test it out and let me know if everything holds up.#MastoBlaster #MastoBlasterUpdate #Fediverse #iOS #Apple

@df I love this idea and the software. I'm a great supporter of #snac exactly for the same reason. You don't need beefy hardware to have your own Fediverse home.Starling is a nice because it can be used without setting up a proper server - just a php installation and a domain.I'll keep this testing instance on and continue to test it with MastoBlaster.

MastoBlaster Build 94 is now available on TestFlight. This is a major release that merges several different development branches I've been working on, bringing together a lot of moving parts into a single build. A long, sleepless night…Here is what changed:Full Drafts Support: A complete end-to-end draft flow. It includes auto-save, the ability to edit existing drafts, and a smart cancel confirmation that either discards a new draft or restores the original state if you were editing. It supports replies, quotes, polls, and media metadata.Trending Posts: Added a new trending timeline type with proper offset pagination support.Timeline Position Improvements: Added extra protection to stop SwiftUI from overwriting your saved scroll position when the view disappears or goes to the background. If a saved post can't be found in the cache, the app will now try a direct status fetch before giving up.UI & Navigation Fixes: Tapping Content Warnings (CW), "Show Filtered Post", or "Show More" now goes through an inline-action guard, fixing the bug where tapping them would accidentally trigger row navigation into the thread. Filtered posts also get proper bottom padding so the list separator doesn't sit on top of the button.Instance Compatibility & Tweaks: Added customizable timeout settings for slower instances (like snac on older hardware). I also fixed the 405 error when setting alt text on GoToSocial, and updated marker sync to strictly align with Mastodon’s documented form shape.Testing focus: I've implemented search fixes ensuring queries stay locked to the account you are searching from. If you are on GoToSocial, please test this thoroughly and let me know how it behaves. Since this build is the result of a massive merge, keep an eye out for any regressions.#MastoBlaster #MastoBlasterUpdates #iOS #Mastodon #snac #GoToSocial #Fediverse #Apple

This blog runs WordPress with the ActivityPub plugin, so it’s also my account on the Fediverse. Some of you follow me at @jeremy@herve.bzh, and when I post here in WordPress, it reaches your timeline on Mastodon / GoToSocial / Misskey / Pleroma…That’s the publishing side, and it works well. The reading side is newer. The ActivityPub plugin has a Fediverse Reader inside wp-admin, but we’re still building it out. In practice, I’d been doing most of my reading elsewhere. When I first joined the Fediverse I set up a GoToSocial instance, and I’ve continued to use it to consume content, on my phone, in Tusky. The UX was just simpler. That setup works for me. It only works because I’m tech-savvy enough to keep a spare account on a GoToSocial instance, and juggle between 2 instances to read or write. That’s probably not a setup that will attract more people to the Fediverse. 🙂This past month, Automattic ran an internal experiment called Radical Speed Month. For the whole month, I got to pair with one other person in my timezone, pick a project that interests me, work on it, and ship it. I got to decide what to work on, how I wanted to work, how I wanted to communicate about it. This was a great opportunity to focus on one thing and one thing only, to avoid other distractions. Maybe most importantly, it was a chance to reflect on how we’ve been working in the past few years, and compare that with a focused effort in a much smaller team. When we resume regular work on Monday, one of the first things I’ll do is chat with my team, and figure out if there are things we can drop or change from our past team workflow and routine. For me, the point of that “radical month” wasn’t just about the projects, although there are some cool ones coming out! It was the chance about triggering some introspection, re-examining our processes: what would change about how we work, and what would we want to keep.I paired with @pfefferle. We already work on the same team, so I knew it’d be a good month. 🙂 We picked a project that fit the both of us. We turned the WordPress.com Reader into a place where you can now connect Bluesky (or any other ATProto platform), Mastodon (or any other Fediverse tool using the Mastodon API), and Fediverse accounts. You can now read, react, and post from one place. Three protocols, one Reader. We called the project Reader Everywhere. One of the pieces I’m proudest of is on the Fediverse side. @pfefferle was really the driver behind this part of the puzzle! The integration is built on top of the ActivityPub Client-to-Server API. As far as I know it’s the first product at this scale to be built on top of it. We’re hoping that by shipping and iterating on the client, we’ll help the standard grow. There’s a longer write-up of this on the ActivityPub blog: Your WordPress Site — From RSS Feed to Social Account. Here’s what we shipped, in a 90-second walk-through: This was also a good opportunity to get back to a full focus on coding. I moved into a leading role a while ago, and as one can expect, it involves some meetings, reviews, planning, discussions. That’s useful and important work, but I will say that it felt good to be back to building things for a month. Matthias and I would think about solutions, push code every day, review each other’s PRs, smooth out the rough edges, ship. I really enjoyed it!If you have a WordPress.com account, I would encourage you to check the Reader! I’d love to know what you think 🙂

Hollo 0.9.0 is out. https://github.com/fedify-dev/hollo/discussions/496 The biggest change this release is a complete redesign of every server-rendered page. Pico CSS is replaced by a new design system built on UnoCSS, and your chosen theme color now tints your profile and dashboard pages throughout. Other highlights: Passkey (WebAuthn) authentication: sign in with a biometric or PIN gesture, which counts as MFA so there's no separate TOTP step Full FEP-044f quote authorization: QuoteRequest/Accept/Reject federation, quote policy enforcement, and dereferenceable QuoteAuthorization objects A configurable media proxy (MEDIA_PROXY=proxy or cache) that re-serves remote avatars, attachments, and preview images from Hollo's own origin Optional split-domain WebFinger via HANDLE_HOST + WEB_ORIGIN Public followers/following pages and per-post reaction list pages (likes, boosts, emoji reactions, quotes) There were also several serious database performance fixes: profile page queries that were taking hundreds of seconds on cold caches, a NodeInfo endpoint doing a full table scan on every request, and a handful of timeline pagination bugs. #Hollo #ActivityPub #Fediverse
