At least the bears, wolves and cats can.

Edit: Also mosquitos. They're inescapable. You will be eaten at least a little bit. Learned that one the hard way.

At home my folks would occasionally get distress calls from the local police who’d be like ‘hey we know it’s almost midnight but a tourist went into the forest for a walk around sunset and has not come back, can you wake Mia up?’

Because city folk really know nothing about navigating mountain forests at night (and it gets really really dark when it’s overcast — no light pollution in the sticks to give you some glow for directions etc.)
