@Huntn00 @tuban_muzuru @benroyce My "nuance" is that it is absolutely NOT SAFE for someone to visit the USA. Whether or not this financially hurts tourist business is, to me, entirely secondary to the more important safety considerations.
If we ever want tourists back, we need to make our country safe for them again, first.

Some of us exist so far out of reality in Selfishville, it’s the equivalent of National Death Wish… “so I can get something more than you”, but die in the process.

@benroyce I meant some mainstream media, like #CNN, #NewYorkTimes, #BBC, #Guardian, etc. So far, none of these big news outlets have picked up the story, or have they? But if FIFA has an emergency meeting, I guess they would.

Their grand-children and later generations are horrible MAGA heads now. To this day, I still cannot comprehend this betrayal of their *own* history (and I've cut the contact).

You'll probably consider this question hostile and without nuance, but I'd like you to genuinely think about it:
How many foreigners need to be harassed and detained by CBP and ICE to support Wisconsin businesses? How many road rage incidents from Border Patrol officers should we tolerate for you? How many "51st state" jokes should we swallow in order to give you money?
Speaking as someone not in the US, I can assure you the decision for us doesn't require a heck of a lot of nuance.

We have warnings by our Foreign ministries how to behave, and we read in our newspapers how innocent tourists were either prevented from entering the United States in the first place, or were repeatedly detained and hidden away in dubious prison camps before our embassies secured their release.

In July I came through the port of entry at DFW. The place was swarming with heavily armed border and ICE agents just spoiling for a fight. I can only assume the situation has gotten much worse since then. If you are any shade of brown, you will be seriously hassled, that was happening months ago. I wouldn't want to chance being sent to a camp or deported for a football match.

@benroyce It's mostly frustration with Dem leadership being useless. For the record, I vote in every election, including state and local elections which are on odd-numbered years (VA).
But I have absolutely zero faith that the Democratic party, as it is now, will be able to stop Trump, or whomever else the fascists rally around after he's gone.
As for the historical parallels, look up how Germany's liberals sided with the Nazis to stop the socialists from gaining any power. We aren't there yet, but it's starting to rhyme.

@mar01 Non è un ragionamento è un dato di fatto: per raccogliere firme e partecipare al processo democratico bisogna identificarsi. Nell'iniziativa legslativa promossa dal basso con identificazione elettronica alternativa alla compilazione di moduli cartacei io vedo un progresso democratco, e la conferma empirica è la feroce opposizione con cui i neofascisti al governo vogliono abolire le firme elettroniche e innalzare la quota di firme necessarie per referendum e leggi di iniziativa popolare.
