COSCUP (Conference for Open Source Coders, Users, and Promoters) is a free, community-run open source conference held annually in Taipei, Taiwan. Think FOSDEM, but in East Asia. This year it takes place August 8–9 at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and is co-hosted with UbuCon Asia 2026. The Fediverse & Social Web track runs for a full day, six hours in total. It is the first dedicated fediverse track at a major open source conference in East Asia, and we hope it becomes a regular gathering point for the fediverse community in the region. Mastodon ha annunciato un redesign completo dei profili utente, frutto di un lavoro che ha coinvolto oltre 500 persone su più di 300 server. Le modifiche riguardano sia la visualizzazione del profilo altrui, sia la gestione del proprio. Disponibili da oggi su mastodon.social e sui server che usano le build notturne, arriveranno su tutti gli altri con il rilascio di Mastodon 4.6, previsto tra qualche settimana.Cosa cambia nella visualizzazioneIl cambiamento più pratico riguarda i tab dei post. Il vecchio sistema con “Post” e “Post e risposte” era confuso perché il tab “Post” includeva anche i boost. Al suo posto arriva un unico tab “Attività” con un menu a tendina che permette di filtrare liberamente tra post, boost e risposte, in qualsiasi combinazione.Gli hashtag in evidenza diventano più utili: compaiono direttamente nel tab Attività e permettono di filtrare i post di quell’account per argomento con un clic.I post fissati non stanno più in un carosello: vengono mostrati in forma compatta, con la possibilità di espandere tutto in un clic. L’handle completo (@utente@server) appare ora sempre sotto il nome visualizzato, accompagnato da un piccolo pannello esplicativo pensato per chi arriva da altri social e non conosce la logica federata. Now that Catodon is finally rolling, I often think of the time when Firefish exploded, in 2023. There were waves of Twitter "refugees" coming for a while and, while most didn't stay, there was an enthusiasm that we're building something that will attract and welcome more and more people. Somewhere along the way, I feel that this vibe has died. And, on one hand, I know we're building something that has the foundations to be alive in the long run, and that's better than being a short term trend... on the other hand I sometimes miss that enthusiasm and optimism for fedi. Can we have some more of that, please?#fediverse
