Nerd wanted!
My hosting solution just sent me the "updated" invoice for next year and they are out of their fucking corporate minds. So rather than giving them more money, I was thinking it would be nice to pay some self-hosting hacker type (furry or not) and support weird and small rather than large and capitalist.
I would need the following:
- the fairly lightweight website orsom.eu reliably online (all html/CSS with a tiny bit of JavaScript, quite low traffic, okay just using FileZilla for access)
- a couple of email addresses with 5-10 GB of storage (a webmail client would be a plus for emergencies, but just using Thunderbird and K9 is fine)
- EU based (preferably) and better if you can send me an invoiceDo you already have something similar for yourself and don't mind me tagging along for a few years until I have the time to set up self-hosting on my own? Let me know!
Boosts appreciated ❤️

@tino bunny.net for static hosting, mailo.com for email (they are ugly but who cares, they support all protocols like caldav and have great "kids" account types that are locked down inboxes with allowlists).
Both are EU
For even easier static hosting: statichost.eu. He ain't furry but very much "nerd" ;)

@tino @aral Boosted, but also: have you considered @ubernauten ?
-
@tino it sounds like a good way to go but i am tied up atm - make sure to vet your provider properly, this is a good place to seek out that assistance
@gary_alderson Definitely! A close friend works in infoSec, will have a chat with him before deciding :)

@jill
Seconded, I'm quite happy with them for web hosting (although I haven't used it for email yet) and it sounds like they match your criteria.

@tino Here in France we have a growing network of small companies or not for profit groups providing that kind of services with a focus on affordability and privacy (your data is not for sale). The network itself is called CHATONS (an acronym that translates as "kittens"). You can look them up at www.chatons.org and find the ones providing the services you need.
It's an offshoot of a larger free software advocacy group called Framasoft.

@tino I don't know about their furryness :) and they are UK based rather than EU, but @beasts might fit the bill. They have web and email hosting accounts that fit your storage requirements for not a lot of cash. Around £5.00 a month for 15GB storage and 250GB bandwidth. Plus they have a responsive presence right here on the Fediverse.
I'm not affiliated with them other than the fact that I use their services and have been very happy with them.

Unless I missed parts of the conversation, ... nobody said anything about self hosting on residential IP space?

@jwildeboer
FYI homelab is a weird group that requires people to follow them for interaction. Please stop putting them into public conversations where they auto spam people that are replying with their demands.PS: I did the easier for me thing and blocked them.

@oliof @jwildeboer @tino @homelab 1984.is is cool but they still lack IPv6 support which is a shame...
