  • @tk (water heating was / is integrated with heating water for the radiators, and changing *that* would have required too much work and expense. the quote for an air-water heat pump were, as I said, extortionate, so we added air-air heat pumps, but they are sized to work *together* with the radiators, not instead of them)

(one day we'll have a fully electric house, but it will need to happen through gradual changes)

(and yesterday, since the sun was shining and there was some warm wind, it was a bit too warm to turn on the heating anyway)

  • @stefano Sadly you're not the only one, I never published on Apple stores but lots of developers are frustrated by Apple's lack of feedback on rejected apps.

  • The beta of MastoBlaster has been rejected by Apple's reviewers. I did not receive any explanation, no email, nothing in the interface. It simply says it was rejected.

Most likely it happened because I did not provide login credentials for a user account, meaning I should have created an account in an instance and sent them the login details so they could test the app, but this is just my assumption.

I have now created an account and submitted the credentials with the review request. I will probably have to wait another two days, hoping it does not get rejected again or, if it does, that they at least tell me why.

The frustrating part is not the rejection itself, but the lack of explanation. An Apple developer account is paid, and I believe it would be fair to clearly state the reason for a rejection. We will see. For now, it confirms the same frustration I felt fifteen years ago, when one of my apps was rejected. I will talk about that another time.

@Sascha thank you Sascha. I used to be stuff like that on my other VPS - which had a Ghost-CLI installation. With YunoHost I don't dare go in the backend to touch anything, lest I disrupt something. I have too many important apps in that installation. I'm not incurring in any extra costs... it's just that a social networking app caches media, avatars and emojis of everyone I follow. I found an old backup from December 2024 when I was only following one account and it was 256 MB! Pruning the list of people I follow - it overlaps with my Mastodon account - may be the way to go 😅

Donut Lab introduced what it claims is the world’s first commercially available all-solid-state battery at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, marking a pivotal moment in the decade-long race to bring the promising technology from laboratory prototypes to real-world vehicles. The phone-sized battery cells are already powering the Verge TS Pro electric motorcycle, which enters production this quarter.Higher density (400 Wh/kg)Faster charging (potentially in 5 to 10 minutes)Full charge (no longer needing to limit to 80%)Safer (No flammable liquid electrolytes, No thermal runaway chains, No metallic dendrites that can cause internal shorts)Good for 100,000 cycles (high-end Lithium-Ion is about 5,000 cycles). But there is more, at −30 °C and even over 100 °C , they can retain over 99% of their capacity. The usual issue has also been cost, but it is claimed now that without using rare earth minerals, material costs are actually lower than Lithium-Ion too.It still does not stop there though, as these batteries are not created in the cell shapes that Lithium-Ion were, and which required products to conform to the shape of the battery. These solid state batteries behave like clay, so custom sizes, voltages, and geometries are now possible. This also means that these are not only for vehicles but can potentially work in phones and micro-electronics.A solid-state battery uses a solid material (like a ceramic or special polymer) to conduct electricity between its positive and negative sides, instead of the liquid or gel electrolyte found in regular lithium-ion electric vehicle (EV) batteries. As regards a reality check, Verge’s TS Pro motorcycle is being launched now with one of these Donut solid state batteries. Range has increased from the older battery types having 350 km, to now up 600 km, with a charging time of 10 minutes. We will have to see the road tests later in 2026, but if so, then solid state batteries will truly be a game changer. Given the range and the charge cycles, that means the battery will be good for about 60 million kms. That is way more than any combustion engine is ever going to last.See donutlab.com/battery and newatlas.com/motorcycles/verge…#Blog, #batteries, #environment, #EV, #technology

I got quoted in The Guardian again, I guess CloudFlare must have been down or something? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/dec/05/another-cloudflare-outage-takes-down-websites-linkedin-zoom> “These companies have become too big to not fail. And because they handle so much traffic, when they do fail, this immediately becomes a massive problem”#CloudFlare #Centralization #SysAdmin
