Zohran's "Shadows" speech really moved me. I hope it is a watershed moment for the immigrant experience in America.
Also, fuck Andrew Cuomo, Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa. What is it worth to be mayor of New York? What are you willing to become?

I think the grossest part of this is that using ethnicity or race as a disqualifier for holding the Mayor's office is not new. It was a campaign issue for Fiorella LaGuardia in the 30s, arguably one of the greatest mayors in US history. I am old enough to remember it as an issue when David Dinkins ran in the early 90s to become the city's first Black mayor.

I know that solidarity and consistency are hard to find in electoral politics, but it feels gross that an Italian American and a Black candidate are repeating similar race-baiting smears as were used against Italian American and Black candidates in elections past.

Anyway, I hope this is a step forward for Muslim Americans and Arab Americans*. And I hope Cuomo, Adams and Sliwa get righteously trounced and go slinking off to whatever sleazy den they crawled out of.
*Not synonymous.
