  • Oh, no, a guy who drank unboiled, untreated, water is having urgent stomach distress. Who could have predicted this?

  • Dustin's a sweetheart, worrying about whether the other guys got their shelters up.

  • OK, Wayne had a real bear scare. I reckon he's justified in bailing out.

    Sam's looking awful cozy, though.

  • Ah, hell, his name is Joe. But, dude, you had a fire going when you lost the fire starter. Just keep it going forever. Where else you gotta be that you can't put a log on the fire every couple hours? Night time is a challenge, but if you keep it reasonably dry, you can stoke it back to life again in the morning.

  • Doomed by misplacing the fire starter is relatable. I would definitely lose something vitally important to my survival immediately.

  • Maybe they've saved the competent folks for later. Two guys have boiled water in episode 2, including the "better float across this water on a rickety tarp raft".

    This guy eating a banana slug, a notorious carrier of rat lung worm, seems like an avoidable risk? At least he thoroughly cooked it.

  • Thanks, all. I'd say No.

  • I mean, I guess it's saltwater. But, I think they're in a rainforest? They said this place gets 12+ feet of rain every year.

    But, they're seemingly all drinking collected water without boiling or treating it. These folks are not gonna last long.

    Little bonus:Want to see ONLY Jail processes, sorted by CPU%?This command filters out the host system (JID 0) and sorts the rest by Jail ID and CPU usage:ps -ax -o jid,jail,pid,user,%cpu,%mem,command | awk 'NR==1 {print; next} $1!=0 {print | "sort -k1n -k5rn"}'#freebsd #sysadmin #devops #jails #commandline

    Under the hood update!I’ve finally retired the old cron + sh setup for the weather bots. It served us well, but it had a major flaw: if I rebooted the server while it was posting, the job just died halfway. If the server was down during a scheduled slot, the forecast was lost forever.So, I wrote a custom Python daemon to run inside the FreeBSD Jails.It’s stateful now. If a crash happens at city 15 of 50, it resumes exactly there on reboot.If the server naps/is rebooting during a scheduled run, the bot realizes it missed a slot and runs immediately upon waking up.#FediMeteo #SysAdmin #Python #FreeBSD #Coding #SelfHosted #OwnYourData #StayTuned

    The client has a terrible, unreliable FTTC connection. So, this morning, I've been testing several devices and 4G carriers to find a reliable alternative when the FTTC is full/down.The good, old LTE12 Chateau is the best for this task, giving a stable and reliable 220/50 Mbit/sec thanks to carrier aggregation.The newer but smaller hAP ax lite LTE6 is still giving a good result, around 100/50 - expected, as it's "only" a LTE6. This will probably come to my office, while I'm waiting for the Chateau 5G (LTE20) to arrive - probably not before middle of November.Now, I need to create proper queues and rules to manage the two connections - at the moment, I've implemented only the failover and some simple queues on the FTTC.Lunch time.#Mikrotik #IT #SysAdmin #MorningFun
