It will generally be obvious, because they will use excessive amounts of emojis and emoticons and they'll lol and joke and most of all, they'll have a lot of self doubt.Do NOT be a dick to them!If they're failing to do something, politely and kindly help them to do it the right way.If they have self doubt, explain to them that none of us know what we're doing and remind them that the beauty of FOSS is that you can learn in public and get tips from people from all over the world.Don't preach that "meritocracy" bullshit at them.Don't talk about "wasting your time".Don't discourage them.Be nice. You are the adult in the room, and there's a non-zero chance you are a role model to them. Do not crush their spirits. You have a responsibility as a FOSS maintainer to make your project a safe and welcoming space to new comers and that includes kids.Do not be rude and destroy their dreams like some kind of monster.#foss
