  • Game genres that will always be better on a PC than a console.

    Typing

This one is obvious. But for those who don't know, there are games in which you must type words in order to win. That is, a keyboard is mandatory—you cannot play them with a controller.

    Examples:

Typing of the Dead Epistory – Typing Chronicles The Textorcist

    Text adventure

If you're a greybeard, these games will be familiar to you. Many adventure games are completely navigable by keyboard inputs—some of them with a total text interface, no graphics.

    Examples:

Zork Colossal Cave Adventure The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

    Point-and-click adventures

Unlike the previous example, this one does not necessarily require a keyboard. However, it absolutely requires a mouse. The fun is in discovering each clue, what each screen reveals.

    Examples:

The Secret of Monkey Island Sam & Max Hit the Road Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

    Real time strategy (RTS)

While the RTS has sometimes appeared on console, there's a reason they're more popular on PC. This is a genre that needs mouse action and keyboard shortcuts. This because time is of the essence.

    Examples:

Command & Conquer StarCraft Age of Empires

    First person shooter (FPS)

No doubt, the FPS has massively improved on consoles. However, a controller will always play second fiddle to keyboard and mouse. And that's simply because keyboard has more options, and mouse has more accuracy.

    Examples:

    Doom FarCry Call of Duty

Of course, there are several other examples of genres better on PC. But today, I'm keeping this list to five examples.

The focus for us at @Vivaldi has always been to do what our users want us to do. So we have spent time on things like:- Work spaces and tab stacks- Tab tiling- Mouse gestures- Customizable keyboard shortcuts- Tracker and ad blocker- Panels and Web panels- Cross platform, encrypted sync function- Advanced bookmarking function with speed dials- Customizable dashboard- Massive customization options in general.- Notes functionalityWe have also added stuff like this in our desktop browser- Mail client. Calendar- Feed reader- Proton VPN integrationNot everyone uses everything we make, but that is also the point. The fact that we listen to special requests is IMHO a feature and not a bug. We value power users as well.On the other hand, we have stayed away from certain things. Things like:- Blockchain / Crypto currencies- AI You can find us on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. You can even find us in many cars running Android Automotive. We are not the largest browser company in the world, but we are dedicated and we are growing. More and more are giving us a try. To restore the original hyper*text* idea, I desire a #browser plugin that allows me to- mark sites that try to dictate or impede my reading experience, including by pop-ups of any kind- also mark paywalled links and links that are not worth clicking for other reasons (use of "genAI" ...)- add warning sings to links to these sites to avoid clicking and wasting time- add a per-site menu: "block", "noscript", "add client script to suppress nonsense" etc.- share this information with peers

New @Vivaldi on Android as arrived! This one has a much requested feature: custom search engines. This is something we have had on desktop, but it has finally arrived on mobile as well. What is unique here is that you can take most any search and just long click in the search field and add it from the contextual menu. Think about the specialized searches you do and how convenient this can be for you! Here is a pro tip for you. For some advanced searches, with multiple elements, you can fill out some of the fields and then add the search. This saves the custom search with those fields pre-filled.https://vivaldi.com/press/releases/vivaldi-7-7-for-mobile/#Vivaldi #Browser #Android #Internet #Technology
