Hot take: Your ActivityPub project is invisible.
I got TechCrunch coverage for Loops with literally just a signup form because I wouldn't shut up about it.
Ship in public. Make noise. Be annoying if you have to.
Stop being humble. Start being loud. Your project deserves attention but you have to demand it.

@dansup I think part of it is cultural, for many europeans for example it can take a lot more (energy? confidence? vibes?) to be loud and promote our work

mayel@sunbeam.city I'd say it's very much a North American thing to be loud and boastful. Europeans (generalizing like crazy here) probably let the work speak for itself.
I am also like this. It seems backward to advertise something that you do not yet do.
But it does work.

Btw opening https://techcrunch.com/tag/fediverse/
There are also bonfire and nodebb lol
Also the "being loud" strategy can quickly become that now other people have to get even louder... For sure the fedi needs more networking and building in public is cool, but the premise of the post is kinda false, you are not invisible any more than loop and pixelfed are. When I ask people out of the bubble they don't know absolutely anything about this world. Even to questions like "have you ever heard about "bluesky" as an alternative to twitter", while they may even be on twitter lol

ex_06@puntarella.party true, both Bonfire and NodeBB have indeed received TechCrunch coverage, but ironically it was because mayel@sunbeam.city and I did our own "launch day"-style media posts.
So dansup@mastodon.social isn't wrong, you have to tell people about what you're doing.. it's how much that's really up for debate here.
And so mayel@sunbeam.city and I find it a bit more exhausting to do marketing... perhaps we'll find a way to make it easier 🙂
