The European Parliament's Draft Report on the Digital Omnibus on AI is out.
Rapporteurs Kokalari & McNamara propose fixed deadlines for high-risk AI systems, keep AI literacy on providers, raise the bar to "strict necessity" for sensitive data, and require DPA involvement in sandboxes.

All the talk about followers-only posting made me realize I really needed to upgrade prodromou.pub. It was on Mastodon 4.2, 3 versions behind. It took a while, but it's now up to the latest 4.5.x version.

@GyrosGeier i want to just host a small private chat room for a group of my local adult friends to shoot the shit without having to worry about being compelled by blanket legislation to sell them to data brokers or turn over their drivers licenses or whatever wet dream the authoritarian and/or fascist politicians in the US and the EU cook up next week

@aeva your replies assume the wrong threat model, a state that actually wants to observe *you*, a target with a value so high that it is sensible to use their best 0-days and risk them being detected and published.
They only go for the big platforms because that is low-effort and the platforms are willing participants, so the most you need in contingency plans is a domain name you control (so you can move the server without too much disruption) and distributed backups (but that's good practice anyway).
