Il canale YouTube di Andrea Piccinelli è uno dei canali video dedicati al fotovoltaico che trovo interessante. Nel video in link Andrea solleva uno dei problemi che può condizionare l'immissione in rete di energia fotovoltaica e il ritiro dedicato o RID: quando la cabina primaria raggiunge la sua massima capienza. E' un problema che riguarda soprattutto i grandi impianti fotovoltaici. Ma che vuol dire? Come fa una cabina elettrica primaria a raggiungere la massima capienza? L'energia in eccesso convogliala su un'altra cabina primaria vicina, no? Il video non dà una soluzione, ma accenna all'accumulo. Appunto, l'energia in eccesso andrebbe accumulata o convogliata altrove. Tuttavia pare importante conoscere il ruolo delle cabine primarie nell'ambito delle comunità energetiche rinnovabili. Ormai è chiaro che abbiamo sopravvalutato il temuto rischio principale della federazione con Threads: lo tsunami che avrebbe invaso le timeline delle nostre istanze libere, con gravi ripercussioni sul carico di lavoro del server, non c’è stato e non c’è stato perché Threads ha deciso deliberatamente di non federarsi mai per davvero. Ma questo cambia davvero qualcosa?
In questo post faremo un riepilogo della questione "Threads vs. Fediverso libero", traendo spunto da alcune recenti occasioni di confronto sull'argomento. Il post viene pubblicato anche sulla comunità Lemmy @fediverso@feddit.it che raccoglie gli aggiornamenti e le notizie sul Fediverso e che può essere seguito da tutti gli account social del Fediverso (ma non dagli utenti di Threads…).
Cos’è successo finora: la finta federazione di Threads
Ormai è chiaro che abbiamo sopravvalutato il temuto rischio principale della federazione con Threads: lo tsunami che avrebbe invaso le timeline delle nostre istanze libere, con gravi ripercussioni sul carico di lavoro del server, non c’è stato e non c’è stato perché Threads ha deciso deliberatamente di non federarsi mai per davvero.
Al di là delle scelte di carattere ideologico o finalizzate alla protezione dei propri utenti (qui per esempio un post di@gubi e qui la presa di posizione di@kenobit ), tutte legittime (sia chiaro), la motivazione più rilevante tecnicamente tra quelle alla base della defederazione di Threads era proprio quella di evitare l’invasione dei suoi post, sia dal punto di vista qualitativo (a causa della tolleranza di Meta verso i contenuti suprematisti e monnezzari), sia da quello quantitativo (a causa dell’enormità di differenze di scala tra loro e noi).
Alcune istanze hanno praticato un silenziamento preventivo (qui l’annuncio di@devol in occasione della prima parziale federazione di Threads) che consentiva agli utenti di seguire liberamente i contenuti di Threads, mentre altre istanze (tra le istanze più grandi di Mastodon e Pixelfed, gestite da @Gargron e @dansup ossia gli sviluppatori stessi di quei due software) hanno tenuto un atteggiamento entusiasta.
A proposito, c’è qualcosa di molto singolare: mi sembra che la federazione tra pixelfed.social e threads.net non funzioni affatto: da Threads non si vede Pixelfed e viceversa, ma come se non bastasse, da Pixelfed, le menzioni a Threads sono abbastanza diverse da come si vedono da Mastodon…
Le nostre scelte sono state orientate fin dall’inizio da aspetti tecnici: volevamo evitare di pagare banda e risorse per uno dei conglomerati industriali più orrendi della storia recente.
Nello specifico:
Feddit.it non vede Threads per una incompatibilità logica tra Lemmy e Threads (Threads non supporta i gruppi e Lemmy vede solo chi supporta i gruppi)
Citiverse.it non vede Threads semplicemente perché… a nessun utente di citiverse.it interessa nulla di Threads
Poliversity.it non blocca Threads, ma lo silenzia
Poliverso.org non blocca Threads, ma offusca i dati personali degli utenti di Poliverso al server di Threads
Quello che ho potuto riscontrare come utente abbastanza assiduo del Fediverso, come amministratore di 4 piccole istanze (oltre che come moderatore di un’istanza molto grande, come mastodon.uno) è che i contenuti di Threads sono una minoranza sparuta e che non ho mai visto contenuti problematici né ho mai ricevuto una sola segnalazione da parte di altri utenti.
Alla luce di quello che è avvenuto (cioè molto poco) è opportuno rivedere il nostro approccio verso Threads?
Ricapitolando le tre questioni più importanti:
Threads fa parte di un’azienda eticamente ributtante: no, questo non è cambiato e non cambierà mai
Threads rischia di invadere la timeline del Fediverso libero: questo non è ancora avvenuto e probabilmente non succederà
Threads rischia di riversare nel Fediverso contenuti raccapriccianti: neanche questo è avvenuto (ma se qualcuno tra voi ne trovasse contenuti problematici visibili dal Fediverso, ce lo segnali a @informapirata
Resta però un problema non secondario: la federazione tra Threads e il Fediverso è limitata e ritardata e, soprattutto, lo è per scelta deliberata di Meta.
Federazione limitata
Infatti gli utenti di Threads possono essere federati solo se vogliono (e alcuni semplicemente non lo sanno) e in ogni caso gli utenti europei non possono accedere al Fediverso. La motivazione? Alcune supercazzole sul GDPR e sul presunto rischio privacy del Fediverso.
Il risultato è che probabilmente solo una ventina di miliaia di persone sono effettvamente federate. Su Poliversity.it per esempio dei cento milioni di utenti attividi Threads (seh, vabbe’), sono solo più di un migliaio quelli conosciuti dalla nostra istanza
Troet.cafe è un’istanza ben gestita dal suo amministratore @martinmuc ma l’abbiamo scelta proprio perché, essendo praticamente un’istanza che parla solo in lingua tedesca è estremamente “lontana” da un’istanza italofona come poliversity.it e quindi rappresenta un termine di paragone che sicuramente non distorce i dati a scapito di threads.net!
Ok, il problema probabilmente risiede semplicemente nel fatto che su Threads su poliversity è stata silenziata. Sarei tuttavia curioso di conoscere i dati di federazione di mastodon.social…
Oggi Threads (ovviamente) non ha rilasciato dati sugli utenti che effettivamente hanno deciso di federarsi con il Fediverso libero. Sta di fatto che gli studi che hanno cercato di sondare Threads non non hanno mai rilevato più di 20.000 utenti federati!
Mi chiedo se effettivamente federare Threads sia davvero un valore aggiunto…
Federazione limitata
Come se non bastasse, a tutti i post condivisi da Threads viene applicato un ritardo di 15 minuti per la distribuzione nel Fediverso libero. La motivazione ufficiale è che si è voluto far coincidere la finestra di modifica di un post con il ritardo della distribuzione nel Fediverso, ma è evidente come questa sia una scusa per recintare il giardino di Threads.
Sebbene molti amministratori del Fediverso abbiano avuto la presunzione di ritenere di poter tenere isolata “l’istanza” Threads, in realtà è Threads che sta isolando il Fediverso libero: Threads tiene il Fediverso in una perpetua anticamera e di fatto lo silenzia. Non si tratta di un rapporto simmetrico e il minimo che si possa fare è silenziarla. Ribadisco il mio dubbio: qual è il valore aggiunto di far entrare liberamente dentro la propria istanza i contenuti di Threads? Di fatto è come se Threads stesse facendo pubblicità a sé stesso sui nostri spazi, senza concederci però spazio. Il modello operativo di Threads è quello di consentire un “rapporto completo” con i propri utenti solo per chi sta dentro all’istanza; quello che l’istanza lascia trapelare all’esterno è solo pubblicità broadcast ed è pure pubblicità a trasmissione ritardata!
Le Fake news di Meta
Threads ha praticato un approccio estremamente scorretto: non solo ha di fatto segregato i propri utenti, ma ha spacciato ovunque l’idea della federazione in maniera maliziosa distribuendo qui in Europa (dove già avevano deciso che la federazione non sarebbe avvenuta) comunicati stampa falsi (puntualmente raccolti dalle peggiori testate on line) nei quali parlava di apertura al Fediverso. Ha cercato di usare il pubblico sensibile al concetto di Fediverso come mandria da mungere e il concetto di Fediverso l’ha usato come buzzword per rubare visibilità ai nostri progetti. Threads è a tutti gli effetti di una presenza ostile e come tale va contenuta, cercando di evitare estremismi ma mantenendo comunque una linea salda.
Non è questione di purezza, ma è questione di salvaguardia della concorrenza: la nostra impressione è che Meta stia giocando sporco e stia sfruttando l’apertura di gran parte del Fediverso libero per strappare utenti al Fediverso, che già ne perde troppi da solo.
Anche i modelli economici improntati al massimo liberismo puntano a salvaguardare il sistema degli scambi economici dagli attori che viziano il mercato facendo dumping perché si avvalgono di aiuti di stato o di sistemi basati sullo schiavismo.
Per rispettare pienamente il principio di apertura e federazione aperta è fondamentale almeno limitare chi ha deliberatamente scelto di chiudere di fatto l’accesso al Fediverso libero.
Proprio per questi motivi, non bloccheremo Threads, ma di certo manterremo il silenziamento!
@informapirata a differenza degli ideali che sono espressione di principi condivisibili e ampiamente condivisi, l’ideologia per il vocabolario, con accezione neutra, è “il complesso delle credenze e dei valori che orientano un determinato gruppo sociale”. In questo caso come si chiama l’ideologia e quale sarebbe il gruppo sociale? Le persone che credono nei diritti umani universali, nella Costituzione, nell’umana decenza? E non è altrettanto “ideologico” non farne parte?

I was unaware of the hashtags, but I'm in! Just joined #RubiksCube and #speedcubing tags. I've just started translating the book concerning Rubik's cube tactile version. You can find more information on https://tactilecuber.com - the author is Paul Martz, a 62-years-old blind man who bought first cube in 1980 when he was still sighted. I'm born blind instead, and waited 34 years for a tactile-based resource about the cube. Till spring 2025 there wasn't any resource in English as well, before Paul published his book. Now, I'm going to translate it in Italian as well, to provide it to all #blind related associations around the country. I also have started sort of Italian written blog where I share my #cubing adventures. I also ping @nationsblind who I suppose are aware of Paul's efforts. And also @BPI Blind LGBT pride international association where I'm a member and would like to cooperate in concrete ways rather than talk and talk.

FEP 7888 (trwnh@mastodon.social) defines the use of context to group reply-associated objects together.
FEP f228 (silverpill@mitra.social) defines how a context resolves to a collection of posts or activities, and how this can be used to backfill a conversational context.
This proposal aims to extend these guidelines further by codifying:
That a context declares an owner via context.attributedTo.
The situations where a context may be inherited by new objects.
This FEP is a descendant of 7888 and sits alongside f228.

I have amended the text of the FEP to clarify a couple of things, but also changed the inheritance logic following this month's WG meeting and subsequent discussion on ActivityPub.space.
Instead of recommending that replies inherit context from the object it is in reply to, implementors must find the root node (how, is out of scope; tree traversal or context resolution are two ways that come to mind) and inherit its context.
This will simplify context resolution and pave the way for other actions like moving, crossposting, forking, locking, etc.
I also added in a blurb about situations in which a context would explicitly not be inherited.
